Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and 9/11: A Scandal Beyond What Has Been Seen Before

At the beginning of the invasion of Iraq in March 2003, U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld promised: “What will follow will not be a repeat of any other conflict. It will be of a force and scope and scale that has been beyond what has been seen before.” The invasion that ensued was, like all wars, destructive and resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. Yet Baghdad fell in a mere three weeks and just six weeks after the invasion commenced, President Bush announced: “Major combat operations in Iraq have ended.” Despite the death and destruction, it was hardly a war of a ‘force,’ ‘scope’ and ‘scale’ beyond what had been seen before.

However, before it began, there were indications that some people wanted a far more destructive war than that which ensued. For example, ridiculous as it may now sound, it was suggested that Britain and America might use nuclear weapons against Iraq. As The Guardian reported at the time:

From last year’s US defence review and the testimony of the Defence Secretary, Geoffrey Hoon, to the defence select committee last March it was clear that a major change in the US and UK nuclear policy was taking place.

For the first time Britain and America were contemplating using nuclear weapons against an enemy using only chemical or biological weapons.

Referring to “states of concern”, and Saddam Hussein in particular, Mr Hoon told the committee: “They can be absolutely confident that in the right conditions we would be willing to use our nuclear weapons.”

A month before the invasion, Hoon repeated his warning: “Saddam can be absolutely confident that in the right conditions we would be willing to use nuclear weapons.” As investigative journalist John Pilger points out: “No British minister has ever made such an outright threat.”

Thankfully, the invasion passed without our resorting to nuclear weapons. But it seemed the desire for a bigger conflict remained, with attempts beginning almost immediately to find a new, more formidable enemy. In particular, Iran and Syria seemed next on the list for ‘liberation.’ At a press conference in July 2003, President Bush issued a stern warning to both countries, accusing them of harboring terrorists. “This behaviour is completely unacceptable,” he said, “and states that continue to harbour terrorists will be held completely accountable.” Three months later, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control John Bolton told journalists: “There is awareness of the threat posed by Iran and consensus that threat has to be eliminated.” Yet these warnings failed to capture much public interest.

Instead, there was a growing interest around the investigation into the attacks of September 11, 2001. Previously, the press had largely ignored the work of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States, better known as the “9-11 Commission.” When it held its second public hearings in May 2003 on the key issue of air defense, the New York Times and Los Angeles Times failed to write any articles about it. Suddenly though, in March 2004 the Commission became the center of attention when former White House security expert Richard Clarke publicly testified before it and criticized the Bush administration for failing to address terrorism when it first came into office. Since then, the 9/11 Commission remained a major news story and the book of its final report became an instant bestseller. However, the mass media were still overlooking the fact that increasing numbers of people were seriously questioning the entire official account of 9/11. More and more books had been released around the world giving evidence of possible U.S. government complicity in the attacks. Polls suggested that millions of people were suspicious: A Zogby poll in late August 2004 found 49 per cent of New York City residents and 41 per cent of New York citizens overall agreed that “some leaders in the U.S. government knew in advance that attacks were planned on or around September 11, 2001, and that they consciously failed to take action.” A survey three months earlier found 63 per cent of Canadians believed the U.S. government had “prior knowledge of the plans for the events of September 11th, and failed to take appropriate action to stop them.” A July 2003 poll had found almost a fifth of Germans believed the U.S. government, or elements within it, were responsible for organizing the attacks.

With attempts at identifying a new ‘external enemy’ so far failing, I believe it is possible that, instead, this growing suspicion around 9/11 will develop into an unprecedented public scandal. But what are these suspicions about? Are they simply the result of rumour and ‘urban legend,’ or could some of the disturbing allegations now being made be found true in future? In this article, I will examine some of the arguments put forward by 9/11 skeptics, along with supporting evidence. Then I will examine some of the psychohistorical evidence that shows why we could be heading for a major scandal over the events of 9/11. Until the controversy around 9/11 is brought into the open and investigated properly, it is up to individuals to draw their own conclusions. However, in my opinion, the volume of evidence now gathered is enough to suggest a massive scandal is a real possibility. The implications of this would be extraordinary. As one of the most prominent 9/11 skeptics, former German government minister Andreas von Bülow, says: “If what I say is right, the whole US government should end up behind bars.”

THE FAA AND NORAD ON 9/11

The 9/11 Commission was established in late 2002 to provide a full and complete accounting of the attacks of September 11, 2001, and offer recommendations on how to prevent such attacks recurring. On June 16-17, 2004, it held its twelfth and final public hearing. Most revealing was the hearing’s second day, examining the federal government’s immediate response to the attacks. This looked at the actions of the two agencies responsible for the defense of U.S. airspace on 9/11: the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). The job of the FAA is to regulate the safety and security of civil aviation, whilst NORAD is the military organization responsible for defending the airspace over North America. The 9/11 attacks all occurred within NORAD’s Northeast Air Defense Sector, known as NEADS. Below, I have summarised some of the new information that was revealed at this hearing:

  • The New York Times had previously reported that the Boston Air Route Traffic Control Center, in contact with American Airlines Flight 11 (the first plane to be hijacked), knew around 8:20 a.m. on 9/11 that Flight 11 had probably been hijacked. However, the 9/11 Commission reported that Boston “did not follow the routine protocol in seeking military assistance through the prescribed chain of command.” Amongst other things, they sought help from a former alert site in Atlantic City, not realizing it had already been phased out. It was consequently about 18 minutes after they first suspected a hijacking, around 8:38 a.m., that Boston finally reached the military to ask for assistance.
  • In response, NEADS ordered to battle stations two F-15 fighter jets from Otis Air Force Base, 153 miles from New York City. These jets were in the air by 8:53 a.m. – after Flight 11 had hit the World Trade Center but 10 minutes before the second hijacked plane, United Airlines Flight 175, hit its target. However, NEADS supposedly did not know where to send them, so they were directed towards military controlled airspace off the Long Island coast. They were still in this ‘holding pattern’ ten minutes after Flight 175 hit the World Trade Center.
  • At 8:55 a.m., the controller in charge had notified a manager at the New York Air Route Traffic Control Center that she believed Flight 175 had been hijacked. However when this manager at New York then tried to notify regional managers, they were told the managers were discussing a hijacked aircraft and refused to be disturbed.
  • After deviating from its flight plan around 8:54 a.m., the third hijacked plane – American Airlines Flight 77 – supposedly traveled east towards Washington, undetected for 36 minutes. When the FAA contacted NEADS at 9:21 a.m., they reported that the plane heading towards Washington was Flight 11, despite this plane having crashed into the WTC 35 minutes earlier. Furthermore, “NEADS never even received notice that American 77 was hijacked. It was notified at 9:34 that American 77 was lost. Then, minutes later, NEADS was told that an unknown plane was six miles southwest of the White House.” This left the military only one or two minutes to respond. But its fighters were in the wrong place to be of use as they were responding to a plane that did not exist.
  • The NEADS mission crew commander had ordered fighter jets launched from Langley Air Force Base towards the Washington area. Yet despite these being in the air by 9:30 a.m., the commander discovered several minutes later that, rather than going north as instructed, they had flown east over the ocean. So when the Pentagon was hit they were 150 miles from Washington – further away from the capital than when they had taken off.16 Furthermore, the pilots were never briefed as to why they had been scrambled, so when the lead pilot saw the burning Pentagon, he thought it had been hit by a Russian cruise missile.17
  • During the hearing, a tape was played of a phone call between the national Air Traffic Control System Command Center in Herndon, Virginia and FAA headquarters in Washington, DC, that took place at 9:49 a.m. on 9/11. They were discussing how to respond to United Airlines Flight 93 – the fourth hijacked plane. The Command Center asked: “do we want to think about, uh, scrambling aircraft?” An exasperated sounding man at FAA headquarters responded: “Uh, God, I don’t know.” This man then mentioned: “Uh, ya know everybody just left the room.”18 Why did everyone at FAA headquarters leave him alone at such a critical time? In fact, according to the Commission, no one at FAA headquarters requested military assistance regarding Flight 93. Supposedly, “The time of notification of the crash of United 93 was 10:15. The NEADS air defenders never located the flight or followed it on their radar scopes. The flight had already crashed by the time they learned it was hijacked.”19

This evidence seemed to depict an appalling level of confusion and incompetence by the FAA. However, the 9/11 Commission’s conclusion was that this was understandable considering the unprecedented nature of the situation. They said NORAD and the FAA “were unprepared for the type of attacks launched against the United States on September 11, 2001. They struggled, under difficult circumstances, to improvise a homeland defense against an unprecedented challenge they had never encountered and had never trained to meet.”20 To most, this probably seemed a fair evaluation. Yet for people familiar with previous accounts of 9/11, this new evidence added to a long list of contradictions and oddities in the official narrative. Amongst other things, the Commission had failed to mention that while hijackings are rare, the scrambling (immediate launching) of fighter aircraft to intercept civilian planes in emergency situations is a common occurrence.

FAA PROCEDURES

Quite often civilian planes stray from their pre-arranged flight course or else lose contact with air traffic control. For situations like these, the Federal Aviation Administration has established procedures for air traffic controllers to follow. Regulations in force on September 11 stated that controllers should “Consider that an aircraft emergency exists…when: … There is unexpected loss of radar contact and radio communications with any…aircraft.”21 In addition: “If…you are in doubt that a situation constitutes an emergency or potential emergency, handle it as though it were an emergency.”22 To deal with these emergencies, fighter jets can be launched. As MSNBC describes: “If a plane deviates by 15 degrees, or two miles from [its] course, the flight controllers will hit the panic button…. It’s considered a real emergency…. F-16 interceptors can fly alongside a plane to see who’s flying it. They can also try to force it off course.”23 This is a routine procedure that does not require White House approval: Between September 2000 and June 2001, the U.S. military launched fighter jets 67 times to chase suspicious aircraft. 24

It is important that controllers follow these procedures promptly and reliably. If it were otherwise, with thousands of planes flying over the United States at a time, an off-course plane could easily crash into another plane. In fact, this almost happened on 9/11 when, minutes after going off course, the second hijacked plane – Flight 175 – nearly crashed into another commercial flight.25 Paul Hellyer, the former Canadian minister of national defense, asked in a recent interview: “Why did airplanes fly around for an hour and a half without interceptors being scrambled from Andrews [Air Force Base]…right next to the capital?” He says: “with a quick-reaction alert they should have been in the air in five minutes or ten minutes. If not, as a minister of national defense, which in the United States would be the secretary of defense, I would want to say ‘why not?’” 26

What 9/11 skeptics find suspicious is that the routine procedure of quickly scrambling fighter jets to intercept wayward aircraft apparently failed four times in a row on 9/11. If it was the result of incompetence, why was this incompetence only evident on September 11? One man who addresses this point is retired Lieutenant Colonel Robert Bowman. Bowman served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. He has been Director of Advanced Space Programs Development for the Air Force Space Division. He flew 101 combat missions over Vietnam and has personal experience of doing intercepts. Bowman describes the timeline for the morning of 9/11:

We look at the fact that contact was lost with American Airlines 11 at 8:13:50 a.m. That the transponder stopped at 8:20. That the airliner went off course at 8:20. That at 8:21 a stewardess reported the hijacking. So it’s reasonable to me to think that within five minutes somebody should have told NORAD and gotten those planes scrambled. The planes in short should have been scrambled at 8:26. They were actually scrambled at 8:46, 20 minutes later. They got airborne in 6 minutes, which is about as good as you can do…so they could have been airborne at 8:32. Based on going full-throttle, afterburner all the way, getting there in the shortest possible time, they could have intercepted American Airlines Flight 11 at 8:42 and been at the World Trade Center at 8:43. The first plane didn’t hit the World Trade Center until 8:46 and a half.

The timelines for the Pentagon, it’s even worse. Those planes made a U-turn and headed directly back for Washington, DC, without radio contact, without transponder, off their assigned course, and nothing was done. Again a stewardess reported the hijacking and still nothing was done. Two minutes after the stewardess reported: “Yes indeed this isn’t just a problem, this is a hijacking,” NORAD could have been notified. That would have allowed the F-16s from Langley Air Force Base to be scrambled, airborne by 9:04 and they could have been over the Pentagon at 9:18. That’s 19 minutes before American Flight 77 – if that’s what it was – something flew into the Pentagon at 9:37.

The conclusion to me, as a former fighter pilot, is this. If normal communications, common sense actions, had taken place between the airlines, air traffic control, FAA, NORAD and the interceptor bases, the interceptors would have arrived in time to save both the World Trade Center and the Pentagon with many minutes to spare. So while I conclude that the fighter pilots themselves were not culpable, somebody was. The question is who was it? 27

Bowman concludes: “No one has been court-martialled. No one has been reprimanded. No one has been demoted. No one is to blame. That only tells me one thing. The ones to blame are too high up to play scapegoat.” 28

WAR GAMES

The 9/11 Commission also almost totally ignored what may have been a crucial factor in preventing the successful interception of the four hijacked planes: On the morning of September 11, there was a series of war games being carried out within America. One exercise called “Operation Northern Vigilance,” commenced two days earlier, had U.S. fighter jets deployed to Northern Canada and Alaska to monitor an exercise being conducted by the Russian Air Force. 29 Another was a weeklong semi-annual training exercise conducted by NORAD, called “Vigilant Guardian,” that posed an imaginary crisis to North American Air Defense outposts nationwide. Lieutenant Colonel Dawne Deskins, the mission crew chief for Vigilant Guardian, reportedly thought: “It must be part of the exercise,” when the FAA called at 8:40 to report a hijacked aircraft.30 NORAD commander Larry Arnold says that when he first heard of the hijacking, “First thing that went through my mind was, ‘Is this part of the exercise? Is this some kind of a screw-up?’”31 That morning, three F-16 fighter jets assigned to Andrews Air Force Base, 10 miles from Washington, were involved in another training mission over 200 miles away in North Carolina. They only arrived back at Andrews some time after the Pentagon was hit.32 Furthermore, a drill was planned for 9 a.m. based around a corporate jet plane crashing into a building. The exercise was to be conducted by the National Reconnaissance Office, just outside Washington, which draws its staff from the CIA and military. 33

Pioneering 9/11 researcher and former LAPD narcotics investigator Mike Ruppert has investigated these military exercises for himself. He says they are what caused the failure to intercept the hijacked planes:

The wargames will tie Bush and/or Cheney and Rumsfeld directly into a complete paralysis of fighter response on 9/11. I have gone directly to many NORAD, DoD, NRO, and other sources and questioned them. I have knocked on many doors and I have even obtained some documents. I have obtained an on-the-record statement from someone in NORAD, which confirmed that on the day of 9/11 the Joint Chiefs (Myers) and NORAD were conducting a joint, live-fly, hijack Field Training Exercise (FTX) which involved at least one (and almost certainly many more) aircraft under US control that was posing as a hijacked airliner. That is just the tip of what I have uncovered. 34

Speaking at the prestigious Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, he elaborated:

In some cases false blips were deliberately inserted onto FAA and military radar screens and they were present during (at least) the first attacks. This effectively paralyzed fighter response because, with only eight fighters available in the region, there were as many as 22 possible hijackings taking place. Other exercises, specifically Northern Vigilance had pulled significant fighter resources away from the northeast U.S. – just before 9/11 – into northern Canada and Alaska. In addition, a close reading of key news stories published in the spring of 2004 revealed for the first time that some of these drills were “live-fly” exercises where actual aircraft, likely flown by remote control – were simulating the behavior of hijacked airliners in real life. All of this as the real attacks began. 35

According to Ruppert, Dick Cheney is a prime suspect in planning and carrying out the attacks, and on the morning of 9/11 he was running a separate command, control and communications system, which superseded any orders given by the National Military Command Center (NMCC) or the White House situation room. He did this using a Secret Service communications system based within or near a bunker below the White House called the Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC). Ruppert says he has established conclusively that “in May of 2001, by presidential order, Richard Cheney was put in direct command and control of all wargame and field exercise training and scheduling through several agencies, especially FEMA. This also extended to all of the conflicting and overlapping NORAD drills on that day.” 36

Is it because of these wargames that the FAA appeared so confused and incompetent on 9/11? Is this why the standard procedure of intercepting off-course planes failed four times in succession? What is more, a major biological-terrorism drill called “Tripod II” had been scheduled for the morning of September 12, 2001, in a huge commercial warehouse on Pier 92 of the Hudson. As a result, an equipped and fully staffed Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), New York City and Department of Justice command center was conveniently ready to go into operation when the attacks occurred. 37

Yet another oddity surfaced during the final public hearing of the 9/11 Commission: The personal statement of Navy Captain Charles J. Leidig, Jr. revealed that from 8:30 on the morning of 9/11, he temporarily stood in as deputy director for operations for the NMCC within the Pentagon. In this key role, he was responsible for convening a Significant Event Conference, later upgraded to an Air Threat Conference, in response to the attacks. What is odd is that the regular deputy director, Brigadier General Montague Winfield, only requested the previous day that Leidig fill in a portion of his duty on 9/11. Even though Leidig had only qualified the previous month to stand watch in this post, Winfield only relieved him and resumed his duties around 10:30 a.m.38 In other words, Brigadier General Winfield allowed a newly qualified stand-in to fill his vitally important post for almost the entire duration of the attacks.

We also now know that six air traffic controllers at the New York Air Route Traffic Control Center who were involved in dealing with the hijacks made a tape recording on September 11, describing the events that had occurred, with each controller giving a short statement. Yet, without the tape being transcribed or listened to by any investigators, an FAA quality-assurance manager destroyed it. Despite the FAA having sent an e-mail instructing officials to preserve all records, the manager reportedly “crushed the cassette in his hand, cut the tape into little pieces and dropped them in different trash cans around the building.” Neither this quality-assurance manager nor the center manager disclosed the tape’s existence to their superiors and its destruction was only revealed by coincidence when one of the air traffic controllers asked to review it before giving testimony for a report. 39

THE PENTAGON CRASH

One of the most bizarre of the controversies over what happened on September 11 is around what occurred at the Pentagon. According to the official story, the Pentagon was hit by the third hijacked plane, American Airlines Flight 77: a Boeing 757-200. This departed Dulles International Airport, near Washington, around 8:20 a.m., bound for Los Angeles. Some time shortly after 8:50 it is thought to have been hijacked. Then, around 8:54, it veered off course over Ohio, with its transponder going off a couple of minutes later. Around 9:30 flight controllers at Dulles Airport sounded an alert after noticing an unidentified aircraft flying at high speed towards Washington. Just before 9:38, this aircraft crashed into the west side of the Pentagon. 40

This would seem fairly straightforward. Yet what have aroused suspicion are the photographs taken soon after the Pentagon was hit. Skeptics say these pictures show that damage before the Pentagon’s west block collapsed – about 35 minutes after being hit – was way too small to have been made by a Boeing 757. The main damage was a hole at most just 13 feet wide and 26 feet high.41 Steve DeChiaro, the president of a New Jersey technology firm who was arriving at the Pentagon when it was hit, ran towards the impact point. He has said: “when I looked at the site, my brain could not resolve the fact that it was a plane because it only seemed like a small hole in the building. No tail. No wings. No nothing.”42 Photos clearly show that windows beside this main hole were unbroken. There is some additional damage across the building’s first floor, but this covers an area at most 90 feet in width. How was this possible? Research scientist and software engineer Jim Hoffman points out that a 757 is over 44 feet high; its wingspan is over 124 feet; and as the aircraft that hit the Pentagon approached at a 45-degree angle, he calculates that the damage a 757 would have made would be about 177 feet in width.43 According to air crash investigator François Grangier: “What is certain when one looks at the photo of [the Pentagon] façade that remains intact is that it’s obvious the plane did not go through there. It’s like imagining that a plane of this size could pass through a window and leave the frame still standing.” 44

The damage was so low in the building that, for Flight 77 to have caused it, it would need to have flown perfectly horizontally, barely inches above the lawn in front of the Pentagon. Yet photos clearly show this lawn was left perfectly intact, with no scorch marks or signs of gouging from a Boeing. Nor do any photographs show large pieces of debris recognizable as belonging to Flight 77.45 Apparently 60 tons of aluminum simply disappeared. April Gallop was working in the west block of the Pentagon on 9/11, preparing to take her infant son to the day-care center there. After the building was hit, she managed to locate her son, then crawled out of the wreckage and was driven to hospital. However, whilst there she was visited more than once by some men in suits. These men never identified themselves nor said which agency they worked for. Yet, says Gallop, they told her “what to do, which was to take the [Victim Compensation Fund] money and shut up. They also kept insisting that a plane hit the building. They repeated this over and over. But I was there and I never saw a plane or even debris from a plane.” 46

According to the FBI, the man who piloted Flight 77 was a 29-year-old Saudi called Hani Hanjour. The 9/11 Commission claims Hanjour “was perhaps the most experienced and highly trained pilot among the 9/11 hijackers.”47 Yet descriptions from those who met him contradict this. Months before the attacks, staff at an Arizona flight school Hanjour was attending reported him to the FAA at least five times, concerned that his English and flying skills were so poor that he should not be allowed to keep his pilot’s license. The manager of the school has said: “I couldn’t believe he had a commercial license of any kind with the skills that he had.” She says his English was so poor that it took him five hours to complete a section of an oral exam meant to last just two hours.48 A former employee of the school has said: “I’m still to this day amazed that he could have flown into the Pentagon. He could not fly at all.”49 Newsday describes what happened when Hanjour tried to rent a small plane one month before 9/11: “[H]e had trouble controlling and landing the single-engine Cessna 172. Even though Hanjour showed a federal pilot’s license and a log book cataloging 600 hours of flying experience, chief flight instructor Marcel Bernard declined to rent him a plane without more lessons.”50

How could this man who had never before flown a jet plane successfully navigate a Boeing across America without any assistance from air traffic control, then fly it into the side of the Pentagon? Here is how CBS News describes the final maneuver Hanjour supposedly performed:

Radar shows Flight 77 did a downward spiral, turning almost a complete circle and dropping the last 7,000 feet in two-and-a-half minutes.

The steep turn was so smooth, the sources say, it’s clear there was no fight for control going on. And the complex maneuver suggests the hijackers had better flying skills than many investigators first believed.

The jetliner disappeared from radar at 9:37 and less than a minute later it clipped the tops of street lights and plowed into the Pentagon at 460 mph. 51

According to Gary Eitel, an experienced military pilot, this maneuver would be beyond the capabilities of 90 per cent of the best, most experienced military pilots in the world. 52

Furthermore, video footage that would show the Pentagon being hit was promptly seized by the FBI and has never been made public. The security cameras of a nearby gas station and hotel caught the attack. But, says the gas station supervisor: “I’ve never seen what the pictures looked like. The FBI was here within minutes and took the film.”53 The Washington Times reported how the nearby hotel similarly had its security film quickly seized by the FBI.54

On the basis of this evidence and more, skeptics say the physical evidence of the Pentagon crash is more consistent with it having been hit by something smaller, like a missile or unmanned military aircraft such as a Global Hawk. Yet if this was so, why did many individuals claim they saw a Boeing 757 flying at the Pentagon that morning? There are two main theories attempting to explain this. The first takes a psychological perspective, examining the problems of eyewitness testimony: If an event happens very rapidly such that a person’s senses are unable to capture all its details, to make their perception more complete and coherent their brain might replace a poorly received sensation with another from acquired memory. Thus, if Pentagon witnesses heard on the news about Boeings hitting the WTC and later heard that it was a 757 that hit the Pentagon, they might then report that they did indeed see Flight 77 there, when in fact what they saw occurred too fast for them to say with certainty that it was a Boeing rather than a smaller aircraft.55 The second theory is that there were two aircraft flying towards the Pentagon on 9/11. One of them, an American Airlines 757, was used to divert people’s attention. It flew towards the Pentagon then veered off, landing unnoticed at Reagan National Airport just a mile away. Approaching the Pentagon at the same time, but much lower, was a smaller aircraft, maybe a missile. It was this that crashed into the Pentagon whilst the 757 flew over the top. 56

Outlandish as it may at first sound to suggest a missile hit the Pentagon, this appears something that could well capture the public interest should there be a 9/11 scandal. For example, this suggestion featured prominently in two recent major articles in British publications about the controversy over 9/11. One of these was in Britain’s second most popular daily newspaper, the Daily Mail; the other, in a popular weekly magazine for young men.57 It was also a key subject of a book that became a record-breaking bestseller in France in 2002.58 If it were ever found that the Pentagon was indeed hit by something other than Flight 77, this would certainly ruin the official account of 9/11. Furthermore, we would be left with new and baffling questions. For example, if Flight 77 didn’t hit the Pentagon, what happened to it? What happened to the passengers? Who was behind this outrageous act? And why fly something like a missile into the Pentagon then claim it was a Boeing?

Let us next consider how probably the three most important people within the Bush administration behaved during the course of the 9/11 attacks and what they have done since in relation to the events that day. I am focusing on these three – Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney and George W. Bush – because they are well known and therefore, I believe, were they ever found to be in any way complicit in 9/11 it would be particularly shocking to the general public.

DONALD RUMSFELD ON 9/11

As U.S. secretary of defense, Donald Rumsfeld was on 9/11 second in the military chain-of-command behind the president. Yet details of what he did during the attacks are sketchy and from what we currently know, he did nothing in response to the crisis until it was too late to make a difference.

According to Rumsfeld, on the morning of September 11 he was hosting a breakfast meeting at the Pentagon for some members of Congress. He told them that “sometime in the next two, four, six, eight, ten, twelve months there would be an event that would occur in the world that would be sufficiently shocking that it would remind people again how important it is to have a strong healthy defense department.”59 Soon after, someone walked in and gave him a note saying a plane had hit the World Trade Center. Yet Rumsfeld apparently was not moved to take action. “[W]e adjourned the meeting, and I went in to get my CIA briefing,”60 he has said. Whilst in his office with the CIA briefer, Rumsfeld says he was told of the second plane hitting the WTC. Yet he went ahead with a meeting in his private dining room at the Pentagon with his deputy, Paul Wolfowitz and U.S. Representative Christopher Cox, to discuss how to win votes for Bush’s defense plan.

During this meeting, Rumsfeld was apparently oblivious to the fact that an airplane was heading towards Washington. However, he made another prediction: “let me tell you, I’ve been around the block a few times,” he told Representative Cox. “There will be another event.” For emphasis, he repeated: “There will be another event.”61 Just minutes later the Pentagon was hit. Rumsfeld says: “I went outside to determine what had happened. I was not there long because I was back in the Pentagon with a crisis action team shortly before or after 10:00 a.m. On my return from the crash site and before going to the executive support center, I had one or more calls in my office, one of which was with the president.”62 Rumsfeld didn’t enter the National Military Command Center within the Pentagon though until 10.30. Brigadier General Montague Winfield says: “For 30 minutes we couldn’t find him. And just as we began to worry, he walked into the door of the National Military Command Center.”63 As the 9/11 Commission conclude: “The Secretary of Defense did not enter the chain of command until the morning’s key events were over.”64 Nor is Rumsfeld on the record as having given any orders that morning.

Yet, according to military procedure, if the Federal Aviation Administration were to notify the National Military Command Center of a hijacking, with the exception of “immediate responses” the NMCC was required to “forward requests for DOD assistance to the Secretary of Defense for approval.”65 Of course, 9/11 would easily come under the heading of “immediate responses.” All the same, Rumsfeld has yet to be asked whether he was contacted in line with this military procedure and, if so, what did he do in response?

Interestingly, since 9/11 Donald Rumsfeld has made statements suggesting why he may have wanted an event like 9/11 to occur. For example, in a televised interview two years after the attacks, he described how he thinks about what a senior leader in the Gulf told him, that maybe 9/11 was “a blessing in disguise,” and a “wake-up call” for the world to deal with the growing threat of terrorism. Rumsfeld said he agreed with this, that 9/11 was indeed a ‘wake-up call.’66 He wrote a similar thing in his prepared testimony to the 9/11 Commission:

Think about what has been done since the September 11th attacks: two state sponsors of terrorism have been removed from power, a 90-nation coalition has been formed which is cooperating on a number of levels… All of these actions are putting pressure on terrorist networks. Taken together, they represent a collective effort that is unprecedented – which has undoubtedly saved lives, and made us safer than before September 11th. 67

DICK CHENEY ON 9/11

Based upon mainstream accounts, Vice President Cheney’s actions during the attacks appear less suspicious than those of Bush and Rumsfeld. However, there are some odd contradictions in the reports of what he did. On the morning of September 11, before learning about the attacks, Dick Cheney was in his office in the White House. According to the 9/11 Commission, just before 9 a.m. he was preparing for a meeting when his assistant “told him to turn on his television because a plane had struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.”68 Cheney subsequently saw the second aircraft hitting the South Tower. Then, “just before 9:36,” the Secret Service ordered the evacuation of the vice president and agents took him down to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, the bunker below the East Wing of the White House. “The Vice President entered the underground tunnel leading to the shelter at 9:37.” 69

However, according to White House photographer David Bohrer who was present at the time, this evacuation occurred just after 9 a.m.70 Furthermore, Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta described before the 9/11 Commission how a young man had come into the PEOC to inform the vice president of the approach towards Washington of the aircraft that hit the Pentagon. According to Mineta, this occurred around 9:25 or 9:26.71 This suggests that the report of Cheney only reaching the underground tunnel leading to the shelter at 9:37 is incorrect. If Cheney were in fact evacuated soon after 9, why would it later be claimed this took place about half an hour later? One possibility is that it was to make the failure of the Secret Service to evacuate President Bush from his location that morning appear less suspicious. (See below.) Alternatively, if Michael Ruppert’s allegations about the vice president’s involvement in the attacks are correct, then this claim could simply be an attempt to conceal his complicity.

Soon after 9:15, Cheney spoke over the phone with the president, who was at a school in Florida that morning. Also, “sometime before 10:10 to 10:15,” he reportedly phoned the president to discuss the rules of engagement for the combat air patrol above Washington. Supposedly, he recommended the president authorize the military to shoot down any civilian airliners that might be under the control of hijackers. Bush later recalled his response being “You bet.”72 The president also emphasized in his private meeting with the 9/11 Commission that he had authorized the shootdown of hijacked aircraft.73 This is an important point, because the shooting down of a wayward aircraft before it crashed into a populated area could save many lives. Yet, according to the 9/11 Commission, “there is no documentary evidence for this call.”74 Newsweek adds: “Nor did the real-time notes taken by two others in the room, Cheney’s chief of staff, ‘Scooter’ Libby – who is known for his meticulous record-keeping – or Cheney’s wife, Lynne, reflect that such a phone call between Bush and Cheney occurred or that such a major decision as shooting down a U.S. airliner was discussed.”75 According to Newsweek, some of the Commission’s staff were highly skeptical of Cheney’s account, with one well-informed source claiming some of them “flat out didn’t believe the call ever took place.”76 All the same, whether or not Bush authorized him to do so, “by the time Cheney issued his shoot-down order, between 10:10 and 10:15 a.m., United Flight 93, the last plane-turned-missile on 9/11, had already crashed in Pennsylvania (at 10:03 a.m.).” 77

Furthermore, it appears that Cheney – along with Bush – was reluctant for 9/11 to be investigated: When then Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press in May 2002, he said Cheney had, on January 24 that year, urged him not to investigate the events of September 11. Daschle added that four days later Bush made the same request. When the program’s moderator Tim Russert asked: “It wasn’t, ‘Let’s not have a national commission, but let’s have the intelligence committees look into this,’ it was ‘No investigation by anyone, period’?” Daschle replied: “That’s correct.” He added that the request had been repeated on “other dates following.” 78

GEORGE W. BUSH ON 9/11

September 11, 2001 was the most important day of George W. Bush’s life. As American president he was commander in chief of the U.S armed forces. His actions were crucial. According to the 9/11 Commission, the only people that day with authority to order the shooting down of a civilian plane if, say, it were heading towards a populated area (like the World Trade Center or the Pentagon) were the president or the secretary of defense.79 I have already shown that Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld was apparently ‘out of the loop’ during the attacks. What then did Commander in Chief Bush do?

Before examining this question, it is important to recognise that the U.S. president does not travel alone. He takes with him an entire staff, including members of the Secret Service, who are responsible for his safety. The president’s travelling entourage have the best communications equipment in the world. They have contact with, or can easily reach, the cabinet, the National Military Command Center in the Pentagon, the FAA and other Secret Service agents.80 We might therefore assume George Bush would have been one of the first people informed of the extraordinary chain of events unfolding on September 11.

Furthermore, Bush’s location for that morning was made public four days previously, on September 7: He would be in Sarasota, Florida, to “continue his focus on reading and education.”81 We might assume then that once it was recognised that America was under attack, the president would have been considered a potential target and immediate action would have been taken to protect him and ensure the safety of all around him. Yet, despite the horrifying sequence of events in progress, Bush continued with his pre-planned visit to the Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, where he listened to a class full of children reading. He remained at the school until around 9:35 a.m.81 – nearly 50 minutes after the first plane hit the WTC and over half an hour after the second plane hit. Incredibly, the president’s support team, including the Secret Service, allowed this.

According to Philip Melanson, an expert on the Secret Service, Bush should have been removed from the school immediately after Flight 175 hit the second WTC tower. Melanson says: “With an unfolding terrorist attack, the procedure should have been to get the president to the closest secure location as quickly as possible, which clearly is not a school. You’re safer in that presidential limo, which is bombproof and blastproof and bulletproof.”83 Furthermore, considering the president’s responsibilities as commander in chief, Melanson adds that Bush’s limousine had key advantages: “In the presidential limo, the communications system is almost duplicative of the White House – he can do almost anything from there but he can’t do much sitting in a school.” 84

Bush was informed of the second plane hitting the WTC when, around 9:05, his Chief of Staff Andrew Card came across the classroom and reportedly whispered to him: “A second plane hit the second tower. America is under attack.”85 According to the 9/11 Commission: “The President told us his instinct was to project calm, not to have the country see an excited reaction at a moment of crisis.”86 Furthermore, “The Secret Service told us they were anxious to move the President to a safer location, but did not think it imperative for him to run out the door.”87 Yet this inaction could have had disastrous consequences. In the words of 9/11 researchers Allan Wood and Paul Thompson: “Why hasn’t Bush’s security staff been criticized for their completely inexplicable decision to stay at the school? And why didn’t Bush’s concern for the children extend to not making them and the rest of the 200 or so people at the school terrorist targets?”88 As the reporter Gail Sheehy concludes, the final report of the 9/11 Commission shows that on the morning of September 11, “the president and the other top officials in charge of the systems to defend the country from attack were, in essence, missing in action: They did not communicate, did not coordinate a response to the catastrophe, and in some cases did not even get involved in discussions about the attacks until after all of the hijacked planes had crashed.” 89

With the best communications in the world available to him, we might assume Bush would have been one of the first people informed of the hijackings and the first plane hitting the WTC. Yet according to official accounts, he remained oblivious even whilst millions of people saw what had happened on television. Strangely, there have been at least seven different accounts of when and from whom Bush first heard of Flight 11 crashing into the WTC.90 As Allan Wood and Paul Thompson note, Bush’s own recollections only add to the confusion:

Less than two months after the attacks, Bush made the preposterous claim that he had watched the first attack as it happened on live television…. On December 4, 2001, Bush was asked: “How did you feel when you heard about the terrorist attack?” Bush replied, “I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower – the TV was obviously on…. I said, it must have been a horrible accident.”91

Yet, as Wood and Thompson point out, “There was no film footage of the first attack until at least the following day.” They continue:

It’s doubly strange why his advisors didn’t correct him or – at the very least – stop him from repeating the same story only four weeks later. On January 5, 2002, Bush stated: “Well, I was sitting in a schoolhouse in Florida…and my Chief of Staff – well, first of all, when we walked into the classroom, I had seen this plane fly into the first building. There was a TV set on.” 92

On the morning of 9/11, Bush promised that he had “ordered that the full resources of the federal government go…to conduct a full-scale investigation to hunt down and to find those folks who committed this act.”93 Yet it appears more like he has tried to hinder investigations. As Salon reported in June 2003:

The White House long opposed the formation of a blue-ribbon Sept. 11 commission, some say, and even now that panel is underfunded and struggling to build momentum. And, they say, the administration is suppressing a 900-page congressional study, possibly out of fear that the findings will be politically damaging to Bush.

“We’ve been fighting for nearly 21 months – fighting the administration, the White House,” says Monica Gabrielle. Her husband, Richard, an insurance broker who worked for Aon Corp. on the 103rd floor of the World Trade Center’s Tower 2, died during the attacks. “As soon as we started looking for answers we were blocked, put off and ignored at every stop of the way. We were shocked. The White House is just blocking everything.”

Another 9/11 family advocate…was more blunt: “Bush has done everything in his power to squelch this [9/11] commission and prevent it from happening.” 94

After opposing the creation of the 9/11 Commission, the White House wanted to limit any appearance by the president to just one hour spent with two of the commissioners. A compromise was met such that George Bush did eventually meet with the Commission on April 29, 2004, but only under stringent conditions. Bush had to have Dick Cheney at his side, testifying at the same time; testimony was given in private and not under oath; no press coverage was allowed; and no recordings or transcripts were made of what they said.95 Further suspicion had been raised just over two weeks earlier, when the White House was forced to release a daily intelligence briefing given to the president whilst on vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, five weeks before 9/11. The briefing was titled “Bin Laden Determined To Strike in US,” and stated: “FBI information…indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York…. CIA and the FBI are investigating a call to our Embassy in the UAE in May saying that a group of Bin Laden supporters was in the US planning attacks with explosives.”96 Despite receiving this, according to the New York Times, “Bush broke off from work early and spent most of that day fishing.” 97

What is also interesting is that several key members of the Bush administration, including Cheney, Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz, had been members of a neoconservative think-tank called the Project for the New American Century (PNAC). In September 2000, PNAC wrote a report called Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources for a New Century, which they hoped would be “a road map for the nation’s immediate and future defense plans.” In it they complained: “The post-Cold War world will not remain a relatively peaceful place if we continue to neglect foreign and defense matters.” However, they added: “serious attention, careful thought, and the willingness to devote adequate resources to maintaining America’s military strength can make the world safer and American strategic interests more secure now and in the future.”98 They stated that to “preserve American military preeminence in the coming decades” America would need to undergo a “military transformation.”99 However, they wrote, this transformation would be “a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor.”100 [Italics mine] One year later, 9/11 happened. As George W. Bush wrote in his diary that night: “The Pearl Harbor of the 21st century took place today.” 101

After this catastrophic, catalyzing event, actions proposed by the Project for the New American Century soon came into force. As John Pilger wrote of PNAC:

[In 2000] it recommended an increase in arms-spending by $48bn so that Washington could “fight and win multiple, simultaneous major theatre wars”. This has happened. It said the United States should develop “bunker-buster” nuclear weapons and make “star wars” a national priority. This is happening. It said that, in the event of Bush taking power, Iraq should be a target. And so it is. 102

Furthermore, during his 2000 election campaign and after, Bush repeatedly promised a budget surplus, except in the event of a recession, war or a national emergency. In the days after 9/11, he said to his budget director: “Lucky me. I hit the trifecta.” 103 (A ‘trifecta’ is a kind of bet that requires picking the top three finishers in a race.)

With so much suspicious evidence, one lawyer, Stanley Hilton – a former aide to Senator Bob Dole – has filed a $7 billion suit on behalf of the families of 14 victims of the 9/11 attacks, alleging that Bush, along with Cheney, Rumsfeld and others, actually ordered 9/11 to happen for political gain. Hilton says he has incriminating documents and witnesses showing this. Calling it “the biggest act of treason and mass murder in American history,” he claims that 9/11 was a ‘decoy operation’: “You make the people focus on the decoy to avoid looking at the real criminals. So they are focusing on these so-called nineteen hijackers and saying, ‘Oh, it must have been these Arabs.’ When, in fact, the guilty person is at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue – sitting in the Oval Office.” 104

I have already discussed White House attempts to prevent or hinder any official inquiry into 9/11. But another less known example, where there has been a lack of investigation and a suppression of important evidence relating to 9/11, is in the unlikely situation of the retirement community that is Venice, in southwestern Florida.

THE MOHAMED ATTA MYTH

Of the four alleged 9/11 suicide-pilots, three had been in attendance at two flight schools at the tiny airport in Venice, Florida: Huffman Aviation and Florida Flight Training. Both were owned by Dutch men who purchased the schools within months of each other, in 1999. Soon after they took over, the schools began training unprecedented numbers of Arab flight students.105 Yet Huffman Aviation and Florida Flight Training, along with the dubious characters who ran them, have so far avoided any serious investigation or media attention. One man who has tried to make up for this is investigative reporter Daniel Hopsicker, who spent two years following the attacks in Venice, examining the training of the alleged hijackers. He reports his findings in his book Welcome to Terrorland: Mohamed Atta & the 9-11 Cover-up in Florida. As well as describing evidence of large-scale illegal activity going on in and around the Venice Airport, this book casts serious doubt upon the official account of who the hijackers really were.

We have all heard how these 19 alleged hijackers were Islamic extremists. Yet evidence uncovered by Hopsicker, particularly regarding alleged ringleader Mohamed Atta, depicts unlikely personalities and lifestyles for a bunch of religious fanatics. For example, almost totally ignored by the mainstream press is that Atta had an American girlfriend for over two months whilst in Venice, with whom he would go out clubbing almost every night. At the time, this attractive young woman – Amanda Keller – had spiky pink hair and was working as a ‘lingerie model’ for an escort service called Fantasies & Lace. Atta is known to have been a heavy drinker who snorted cocaine. Local newspapers reported how in February 2001, along with Keller, he went on a three-day binge of drinking and drug taking in Key West. 106

Just days before 9/11, Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi (another of the alleged suicide-pilots) spent the evening drinking heavily at a bar in Fort Lauderdale. The bar’s manager later told reporters that the men “got wasted,”107 drinking “Stolichnaya and orange juice, and Captain Morgan’s spiced rum and Coke.” Bartender Patricia Idrissi concurred, saying: “Atta drank Stoli vodka for three straight hours…. They were wasted.” Amanda Keller describes a typical night out at a club with Atta: “Marwan [al-Shehhi] was in the reggae room drinking with a bunch of women at the bar, there were a lot of women around him, and he was just flaunting money.” As Hopsicker points out: “It’s one thing to hear Atta described as living it up with wine, women and song. But Marwan flaunting money at the bar pretty much puts the lie to the ‘Islamic fundamentalist’ tag.”10

Hopsicker suggests that, rather than being a fundamentalist Muslim, Mohamed Atta better fits the profile of a member of Arab society’s privileged elite and also a spy. Amongst many oddities contradicting the ‘fundamentalist’ label is the fact that his e-mail list included the names of several employees of U.S. defense contractors.109 More alarming, he and as many as six of the other alleged 9/11 hijackers appear to have trained at U.S. military bases. Hopsicker writes:

On the Saturday following the Tuesday attack, the Los Angeles Times broke the story in a long article on their front page.

“A defense official said two of the hijackers were former Saudi fighter pilots,” reported the paper, “who had studied in exchange programs at the Defense Language School at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama.”

The story went wide the next day, Sunday, September 15th. Newsweek, the Washington Post and the Miami Herald all reported as many as seven of the terrorist hijackers in the September 11th attacks received training at secure U.S. military installations.

“Two of 19 suspects named by the FBI, Saeed Alghamdi and Ahmed Alghamdi, have the same names as men listed at a housing facility for foreign military trainees at Pensacola. Two others, Hamza Alghamdi and Ahmed Alnami, have names similar to individuals listed in public records as using the same address inside the base,” the Washington Post reported.

“In addition, a man named Saeed Alghamdi graduated from the Defense Language Institute at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, while men with the same names as two other hijackers, Mohamed Atta and Abdulaziz Alomari, appear as graduates of the U.S. International Officers School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, and the Aerospace Medical School at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, respectively,” the Post said. 110

Newsweek detailed how U.S. military facilities routinely trained pilots for other countries: “A former Navy pilot told NEWSWEEK that during his years on the base, ‘we always, always, always trained other countries’ pilots…. Whoever the country du jour is, that’s whose pilots we train.’ Candidates begin with ‘an officer’s equivalent of boot camp,’ he said. ‘Then they would put them through flight training.’” 111

Hopsicker explains how this crucial story came to be dismissed:

Someone was going to have to answer… for a lot.

“But Atta is a fairly common surname in the Middle East,” the Post quoted Laila Alquatami of the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee as saying, and the suspected hijacker’s first name is “probably the No. 1 name that is given to babies, in honor of the prophet Mohamed.”

The Boston Globe reported the Pentagon’s denial: “Some of the FBI suspects had names similar to those used by foreign alumni of U.S. military courses,” said the Air Force in a statement. “Discrepancies in their biographical data…indicate we are probably not talking about the same people.”

How easy was it to tell the Pentagon was lying? Think about it. It is neither plausible nor logical that the reports were false because of seven separate cases of mistaken identity. One or two, maybe. But seven? No way. 112

None of the newspapers retracted the story, yet it disappeared. One person who sought answers was Senator Bill Nelson, who faxed Attorney General John Ashcroft, demanding to know if the story was really true. However:

The Senator has still not received a reply, we heard from his spokesman, when we called his office eleven months later.

“In the wake of those reports, we asked about the Pensacola Naval Air Station but we never got a definitive answer from the Justice Department,” stated the Senator’s press spokesman.

“So we asked the FBI for an answer ‘if and when’ they could provide us one. Their response to date has been that they are trying to sort through something complicated and difficult.” 113

Deciding to investigate for himself, Hopsicker phoned the Pentagon and spoke with the public information officer who helped write and disseminate their original denial of the story:

“Biographically, they’re not the same people,” she explained patiently, using the same language contained in the Air Force’s press release. “Some of the ages are twenty years off.”

… Was she saying that the age of the ‘Mohamed Atta’ who had attended the Air Force’s International Officer’s School at Maxwell Air Force Base was different than that of ‘terrorist ringleader Mohamed Atta?’

Not exactly, she admitted. She could not confirm that – in this specific instance – they had different ages. What she could do was once again deny that the International Officer’s School attendee named Mohamed Atta had been the Mohamed Atta who piloted a passenger plane into the World Trade Center.

However, she could offer no specifics for her assertion, and repeatedly declined requests for biographical details about the Mohamed Atta who had trained at Maxwell Air Force Base. 114

After Hopsicker’s persistent questioning, she finally said in exasperation: “I do not have the authority to tell you who attended which schools.” Hopsicker reflects: “It was hard to read this as anything other than a back-handed confirmation. When she said that she didn’t have the authority, the clear implication was that someone else does… Somewhere in the Defense Dept. a list exists with the names of Sept. 11 terrorists who received training at U.S. military facilities. She just didn’t have the authority to release it.” 115 Furthermore, Hopsicker spoke to a woman who works at the Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama:

“I have a girlfriend who recognized Mohamed Atta. She met him at a party at the Officer’s Club,” she told us.

“The reason she swears it was him here is because she didn’t just meet him and say hello. After she met him she went around and introduced him to the people that were with her. So she knows it was him.”

Saudis were a highly visible presence at Maxwell Air Force Base, she said. “There were a lot of them living in an upscale complex in Montgomery. They had to get all of them out of here.

“They were all gone the day after the attack.” 116

Despite it being a key 9/11 crime scene, there has been a surprising absence of investigations into the goings on in Venice, Florida. In fact, to the contrary, “the FBI’s full attention seemed to have been engaged – not in investigating what had happened – but in suppressing evidence and even intimidating the witnesses who had seen and heard things that fly in the face of the ‘official story.’”117 For example, Mohamed Atta’s former girlfriend Amanda Keller says that even after she left Venice, the FBI called on her every other day for several months, telling her not to talk to anybody. Similarly, a woman called Stephanie Frederickson who lived next-door to Atta and Keller in Venice reported how she and other residents at the same apartment building were harassed and intimidated by FBI agents, to prevent them from talking to reporters. According to Frederickson:

The question [the FBI] asked was always the same. You aren’t saying anything to anybody, are you?

At first, right after the attack, they told me I must have been mistaken in my identification. Or they would insinuate that I was lying. Finally they stopped trying to get me to change my story, and just stopped by once a week to make sure I hadn’t been talking to anyone. 118

What is more, the FBI arrived in Venice just hours after the 9/11 attacks. A former manager from Huffman Aviation said: “They were outside my house four hours after the attack.” He added: “My phones have been bugged, they still are…. How did the FBI get here so soon? Ask yourself: How’d they got here so soon?”119 Within 24 hours of the attacks, records from Huffman Aviation, where Atta and al-Shehhi attended, were escorted aboard a C-130 cargo plane to Washington by Florida governor and brother of the president Jeb Bush. Similarly, according to a sergeant with the Venice police, the FBI took all their files and flew them to Washington with Jeb Bush aboard. (Presumably this was on the same flight as the Huffman records.) Hopsicker notes: “The important point was that taking files was a lot different than copying them. The FBI wasn’t taking any chances.”120 He concludes: “There is a demonstrable, provable, and massive federally-supervised cover-up in place in Florida.” 121

As this and my previous evidence shows, there are countless unanswered questions about 9/11 that at some point are going to have to be properly examined. Even an investigation into just a few of these questions, such as those around the war games on 9/11, could be enough to start a major scandal. However, as numerous writers and independent researchers have found, there are so many suspicious circumstances that the truth could be very different to what we have been led to believe. The human rights lawyer Richard Falk has written: “There are so many gaping holes in the official accounts of 9/11 that no plausible coherent narrative remains, and until now we have been staggering forward as if the truth about these traumatic events no longer mattered.”122 But if the mainstream press start investigating properly, it could lead to a completely unprecedented ‘9/11 scandal.’

PSYCHOHISTORICAL REASONS FOR A 9/11 SCANDAL

There are in fact specific psychohistorical reasons I have identified why there could be a major 9/11 scandal in future. I detail some of these in my previous article, “Killer Women Group-Fantasies and the 9/11 Controversy,” in which I examined signs of the current public mood in Britain and America.123 My evidence suggested both countries are in a state of particularly high anxiety and will need some kind of large crisis to make us all feel better. But with no new ‘external enemy’ having been found, I suggested we might instead be veering towards ‘regicidal solution’ – where we somehow ‘sacrifice’ our own leaders. For Britain this might mean Prime Minister Tony Blair at some point being forced to resign, perhaps if the situation in Iraq deteriorates further. And for the U.S., I suggested a scandal around possible complicity by some within the Bush administration, U.S. military and intelligence services in the events of 9/11. But what is the cause of the current public anxiety? And why have our leaders been unable to find a new ‘external enemy’ to invade?

Lloyd deMause describes how wars have generally occurred after periods of increased prosperity and social progress, especially when accompanied by more personal freedom. He has found that increased wealth and social change causes many individuals anxiety and discomfort:

That personal achievement and prosperity often make individuals feel sinful and unworthy of their success is a commonplace observation of psychotherapy ever since Freud’s first case studies of people “ruined by success.” Yet no one seems to have noticed that feelings of sinfulness are usually prominent in the shared emotional life of nations after long periods of peace, prosperity, and social progress, particularly if they are accompanied by more personal and sexual freedom. 124

As deMause points out: “‘wars between great powers occur during periods of economic expansion, while stagnation hinders their outbreak.’”125 Furthermore, “Wars not only occurred far more frequently after prosperous periods, but were longer and bigger after prosperity, ‘six to twenty times bigger as indicated by battle fatalities.’” 126

DeMause has found recurrent images of guilt and poison blood in the media, following periods of prosperity and progress. The progress and increased wealth are felt to have “‘polluted the national blood-stream with sinful excess,’ making men ‘soft’ and ‘feminine,’ a frightful condition that can only be cleansed by a blood-shedding purification.”127 DeMause continues:

Wars have often been thought of as purifying the nation’s polluted blood by virtue of a sacrificial rite identical to the rites of human sacrifice so common in early historical periods, when the blood of those sacrificed was believed to renew all the people. War, said those preparing for the bloody Finnish Civil War, purges guilt-producing material prosperity through the blood of soldiers sacrificed on the battlefield. 128

So, in the case of the 1991 Gulf War, once it was over:

The sacrificial ritual had been carried out exactly as planned: by a genocide of women and children. The nation had been cleansed of its emotional pollution. The President’s popularity rating rose to 91 percent, the highest of any American leader in history. The stock market soared…. The country had been united by slaughter as it had never been by any positive achievement…. We felt cleansed, purified, as though we had been reborn. 129

To summarize then, periods of growth and prosperity cause much discomfort to many people: feelings of guilt, sinfulness, being ‘soft’ or ‘feminine,’ etc. And one way that nations frequently relieve these unpleasant feelings is by going to war.

The 1990s and the beginning of the new millennium certainly rank as a period of prosperity and change. Along with increasing wealth and social change, we have experienced a technological revolution, with cheaper and increasingly powerful home computers, DVD players, digital cameras, and many other previously unavailable gadgets. For example, between 1991 and 2001, the number of UK households with a home computer increased from 21 to 50 per cent;131 between 1998 and 2003, the number of UK households with Internet access rose from 9 to 48 per cent; whereas just 16 per cent of UK households had a mobile phone in the 1996-97 period, by 2001-02 this was up to 65 per cent.132 One writer recently concluded: “We live in the freest, happiest, least bigoted, healthiest, most peaceful and longest-lived era in human history…. [W]e are richer and have the power to alter and control our environment in ways that would have seemed like magic 200 years ago.” 133

Considering deMause’s observations about wars correlating with change and economic growth, it seems the conditions have been right for a particularly large war to occur. Although we have had recent wars in Afghanistan (2001) and Iraq (2003), these have been small in comparison to some key wars of the 20th century. For example, the Vietnam War lasted many years, from the 1960s through to the early 70s. During this conflict, the U.S. used weapons of mass destruction, spraying South Vietnam with a deadly chemical called ‘Agent Orange,’ which causes fetal death, congenital defects and cancer.134 Several million Southeast Asians were killed, along with around 58,000 American soldiers. The recent attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq pale in comparison. So surely we’ll need a bigger war than either of these, considering all the prosperity and change of the last decade. However, as I said at the start of this article, following the 2003 Iraq invasion attempts by Britain and America to find a new, more formidable enemy to attack have so far failed.

I believe the reason for this is because there are now larger than ever numbers of people opposing war. This in turn, I believe, is thanks to improvements in childrearing during the latter half of the 20th century. For years, psychohistorians have observed a steady evolution in childrearing that is now more rapid than ever before. Lloyd deMause writes:

Progress in childrearing evolution may be extremely uneven, but the trends are nonetheless unmistakable. The overall direction is from projection to empathy, from discipline to self-regulation, from hitting to explaining, from incest to love, from rejection to overcontrol and then to independence.

… Just the sheer cost of raising a child in dollars has been going up so fast that it now costs a middle-class American family $1.5 million for each child over 22 years, up 20 percent in the past three decades. The families I know in my section of Manhattan easily devote over half of their spare time and half their income to their children. Compare this to the small fraction of parents’ time and money given over to children in earlier centuries with children even spending most of their lives working for adults in various ways and one can begin to comprehend the overall direction of childrearing evolution. 135

Similarly, in 1998 psychohistorian Robert McFarland wrote: “Improvements in parenting practices can now be measured in decades rather than in centuries. Since Sweden banned hitting children in 1979, Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Austria have followed.”136 And whereas in 1992 over 90 per cent of American parents hit their young children, by 1999 this had dropped to 57 per cent. 137

Due to this steady ‘evolution of childhood,’ the average level of childrearing experienced by today’s young adults in developed countries will have been better than that experienced by previous generations. Consequently there are now more and more people in the higher ‘psychoclasses’: individuals who, due to their more loving childhoods, have a higher level of psychological health. These individuals will be more able to enjoy their increased prosperity and the new technology that has become available over recent years, along with any increased personal freedoms. As a result, they will have less, if any, desire for war.

This relationship between childhood experience and support for, or opposition to war, has been found by, amongst others, political psychologist Michael Milburn. Milburn says:

We found that, particularly for males who had never had any psychotherapy, when they reported a high level of childhood punishment, they were significantly more likely to endorse a range of punitive public policies like…support for the use of military force.

… [T]he higher level of punitiveness among political conservatives is really strongly associated with experiences, generally, of harsh punishment from childhood. It’s not just going to be that they were spanked; there’s a whole family climate, and punishment is just going to be one of those indicators of that. 138

If a person who experiences a severe and punitive childhood is likely to grow up into the kind of adult who favours the use of military force, we might logically assume the opposite is also true: Individuals who had better childhoods will be less supportive of wars. Lloyd deMause confirms this, describing his observations of young adults today who have experienced far more loving childhoods:

[These individuals] are far more empathic and therefore more concerned about others than we ever were, and this has made them far more activist in their lives in trying to make a difference and change the world for the better, mostly involving themselves in local activities rather than global political changes. They lack all need for nationalism, wars, and other grandiose projects, and in the organizations they start are genuinely nonauthoritarian. There is no question that if the world could treat children with helping-mode parenting, wars and all the other self-destructive social conditions we still suffer from in the twenty-first century will be cured. 139

With the gradual improvement in the average level of childrearing over recent decades (in developed countries at least), we would expect a corresponding decrease in support for war. This was clearly evidenced by the unprecedented level of opposition to the 2003 Iraq invasion. In London, for example, on Saturday February 15, 2003, an estimated one to two million people marched in protest against the imminent invasion: the largest public demonstration ever to occur in Britain. The following month, 400,000 marched through London, the biggest protest in Britain against a war during wartime.140 Weeks before the war started, Tony Blair suffered the biggest Commons revolt of his premiership when 199 MPs rejected his direction over Iraq. As the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Charles Kennedy, observed: “Despite investing masses of political and parliamentary capital, the government has still failed to persuade a third of the House of Commons.” 141

According to leading political scholar and critic of American foreign policy Noam Chomsky, in an interview around this time:

There’s never been a time that I can think of when there’s been such massive opposition to a war before it was even started…. Even in the United States there is overwhelming opposition to the war and that corresponding decline in trust in the leadership that is driving the war…. If you compare it with the Vietnam war, the current stage of the war with Iraq is approximately like that of 1961 – that is, before the war actually was launched, as it was in 1962 with the US bombing of South Vietnam and driving millions of people into concentration camps and chemical warfare and so on, but there was no protest. In fact, so little protest that few people even remember. 142

Chomsky points out how even our governments are aware of this new reluctance towards war and have had to modify their actions accordingly:

[W]hen any administration comes into office the first thing it does is have a worldwide intelligence assessment – “What’s the state of the world?” – provided by the intelligence services…. When the first Bush administration came in 1989 parts of their intelligence assessment were leaked, and they’re very revealing about what happened in the subsequent 10 years about precisely these questions.

The parts that were leaked said that it was about military confrontations with much weaker enemies, recognising they were the only kind we were going to be willing to face, or even exist. So in confrontations with much weaker enemies the United States must win “decisively and rapidly” because otherwise popular support will erode, because it’s understood to be very thin. Not like the 1960s when the government could fight a long, brutal war for years and years practically destroying a country without any protest. Not now. 143

Although the peace movement failed to prevent the Iraq invasion, when the war began it seemed they had made a significant difference. As Jonathan Freedland wrote in The Guardian:

The campaign began not with “shock and awe” but a subtler knife, aimed at the surgical decapitation of Saddam Hussein and his regime. One night’s bombing of Baghdad lasted no more than an hour.

… There could be a stack of explanations for that initial deployment of the short, sharp blow…. But there may be another motive for the initial preference for short-and-sweet over shock-and-awe. The US might have wanted to avoid a wave of worldwide revulsion. A series of tight, well-aimed strikes at the regime would have confounded the global fear of colossal Iraqi civilian casualties. It’s as if Washington had heard the peace movement’s objection to this war – that too many innocents would die – and was attempting to heed it. 144

Freedland continues:

[P]erhaps the clearest proof of the anti-war camp’s efforts came from our own prime minister: “I know this course of action has produced deep divisions of opinion in our country,” he said, just seconds into his own TV message to the nation. No leader wants to go into a war admitting such a thing. But Blair had no choice. As with much else, the peace movement has changed the landscape for this conflict – and the men of war are having to deal with it. 145

What peace activists may well have achieved is the prevention of further invasions of ‘axis of evil’ countries. As Lindsey German of the Stop the War Coalition said: “does anyone think Tony Blair can ever stand up in parliament again and say the words ‘trust me’? As they talk up targeting Iran and Syria, do you think anyone will ever believe this government when they say we’ve got the intelligence to prove it?” 146

Maybe the improvements in childrearing over recent decades that account for this unprecedented opposition to war, will also mean there are now enough people less afraid to challenge authority and face unpleasant truths, so as to help bring about a 9/11 scandal. Compare this to, say, the truth about the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. We now know that President Franklin Roosevelt and his top military advisers knew in advance that Japan was planning a ‘surprise attack’ on America. Japanese radio messages had been intercepted and it was known when and where they would attack the U.S. Despite this foreknowledge, Roosevelt allowed the attack to go ahead so as to create a pretext for America to join World War II. Yet these facts only became more widely known in 2000, with the release of Robert B. Stinnett’s book Day of Deceit: The Truth About FDR and Pearl Harbor. 147 Robert McFarland points out: “While it was 58 years before Stinnett’s book made the facts about Pearl Harbor widely known, two important books about 9/11 came out within a year… Since these books came out quickly, we are apparently more willing to look at bad news than we were in 1941.” 148

While a 9/11 scandal would be a sufficiently large public crisis to help ease the particularly high level of public anxiety (‘growth panic’) among the lower psychoclasses, unlike a massive war it ought also be acceptable to the more peaceful higher psychoclass individuals. If we do have such a scandal, the emotional effect will undoubtedly be intense. Consider how the general public would feel if people start openly accusing some within the Bush administration of complicity in the 9/11 attacks. How would Americans feel who had voted for these men, trusted and respected them? I can imagine many people finding such events devastating. What if security camera footage of the attack on the Pentagon had to be made public at some point and it showed something other than a Boeing 757 hitting the Pentagon? Surely millions of people would feel horrified. The full implications of a 9/11 scandal would be colossal. It would be the emotional equivalent of a massive war. So maybe instead of the war “of a force and scope and scale that has been beyond what has been seen before,” that Donald Rumsfeld promised back in 2003, there is going to be a scandal of a ‘scope and scale’ that is ‘beyond what has been seen before.’”

Due to the fact that this new procedure was introduced just three months before 9/11, several individuals have questioned whether this new instruction, requiring secretary of defense approval in responding to hijackings, was introduced deliberately so as to hinder the interception of the hijacked planes on 9/11. THE SOURCE OF KILLER MOTHERHOOD IN CHRISTIAN MISOGYNY
That all human sin and misery came into the world through the first woman, Eve, is the founding belief of both Judaism and Christianity, and the origin of the most severely misogynistic cultures in history. When a girl was born, said early Hebrews, “the walls wept.” Girls were everywhere considered “not worth raising” since they would not carry on the family name, and so infanticide of girls by Killer Mothers by strangling, drowning, exposure and sending to wet-nurses was so common among Christians that high sex ratios (up to 400 boys to 100 girls and higher) were common even among the rich.1 Coleman found boys outnumbering girls up to two to one in a 9th century French tax record, and concluded higher infanticide of girls was the cause.2 Newborn girls, like Eve, “were considered as full of dangerous pollution…and were therefore more often killed, exposed, abandoned, malnourished, raped, and neglected than boys. Everyone agreed girls should be fed less than boys; as Jerome put it, ‘Let her meals always leave her hungry.’”3 Of the 600 families in Delphic inscription records, just one percent reared two daughters.4 Children watched their parents kill their newborn siblings and learned the first rules of misogyny: females are murderous and baby girls worthless, so boys had better not seem “female” (weak) or they too might be killed by their mothers.

As Christian girls grew up, they were constantly told of their worthlessness and sinful lustfulness. Women, said Tertullian, were “irrational, more prone to lust than men, and at every turn waiting to seduce men,” so husbands had to beat them all the time to keep them from sinning.5 “A good woman and a bad one equally require the stick” ran a Florentine saying, and medieval laws concluded: “Provided he neither kills nor maims her, it is legal for a man to beat his wife…”6 St. Paul said that women had to cover their heads in church because otherwise “lice-like demons would leap like sparks from female hair and poison the church.”7 Plus, of course, women were liable to turn into witches at any time and remove a man’s penis; as John Chrysostom maintained, “All witchcraft comes from carnal lust, which in women is insatiable.”8 Parents in early Christian families routinely beat their little girls badly from early infancy in order to punish their lustfulness. The historical records contain hundreds of descriptions of beating girls “to discipline them, as with this father who punished a little girl for four hours: ‘the little girl in the diapers would not receive her discipline. She cried and cried and he kept hitting her…He told me, you spank her till she breaks…But she didn’t break and, after four hours, he couldn’t continue.’”9 Teaching girls in schools was not allowed, Aelred said (1170), because the teacher might be tempted to show them affection. Teachers, he said, were “angry one minute and smiling the next, now threatening, now flattering, kissing one child and smacking another. When she sees one of them crying after being smacked she calls her close, strokes her cheek, puts her arms around her neck and holds her tight,” 10 producing a moment of forbidden closeness. Christian priests and nuns backed bloody beatings as necessary to punish the child’s endless sins, since, as Augustine put it, “If the infant is left to do what he wants, there is no crime it will not plunge into.”11 “Better that you should beat a child within an inch of its life than that they would be cast into the Lake of Fire for all eternity.”12

The constant sinfulness of all Christian children demands the maximum torture or even death as punishment. Moses told the Israelites that “If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father or the voice of his mother…all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die.”13 Little changed in the next 1600 years of Christianity, as John Calvin decreed: “Those children who violate parental authority are monsters. Therefore the Lord commands all those who are disobedient to their parents to be put to death.”14 If a young woman should simply speak to someone who was not approved by her father, that was enough of a sin for Constantine, the first Christian emperor, to decree a penalty of “death by having molten lead poured down her throat.”15 It was in fact sometimes a practice during the Middle Ages to “bury an un-baptized infant with a stake through its heart so that it would not arise and injure many,” so full of sin it was at birth.16

Constantine’s Cult of Christianity was stolen from Gnostic spiritual Jews (and Eastern religions as well) and turned into a history. Jesus is the sun. It’s Astrotheology. There was no man named Jesus, or King David, or Solomon, Abraham, Moses, etc. Those that knew were called heretics and killed. Rome’s new Mind Control religion was FORCED on mankind for political reasons, entire cultures wiped out, millions of books burned. There was nothing good or enlightening being spread over the earth by this cult! They removed reincarnation and took away our Divine Goddess and rewrote a book of dogma. No thing on earth has caused as much harm to the entire human race than this religion and it’s branches. They are the scribes and Pharisees described in the bible as a brood of vipers. The bible is a beautiful book of stories that need to be  understood in the correct way. I know I sound angry, and I am angry at the religious institutions and their cult members. I’ve had enough arguments with the brainwashed followers of Constantine to last the rest of my life. Their NEED to believe in the bible as history is ego based, not spirit based. They are willfully blind to the damage  their cult has done. I liken them to people insisting Humpty Dumpty was real. They miss the point of the story and worship it’s historical nature. This church has lied and invented false history to literalize spiritual mythology. It’s more than misguided, it’s evil. Yes, I am angry, but hopefully not coming across as hateful. It’s the cult members who are hateful, this is my reaction at this moment in time. My reaction to their wars, their stubbornness, their burning at the stake my brothers and sisters as Gnostics and witches. My sadness over Hypatia’s brutal skinning alive by a Christian mob that went on to burn the Library of Alexandria, destroying millions of books of ancient Egyptian knowledge setting back mankind a thousand years!  There are still Gnostic truths hidden throughout the bible, despite their re-editing over the years. Let those who have ears, hear, and those that have eyes, see those hidden nuggets of mystical Truths embodied in the mythical story of Jesus the Sun of god. Sophia and Lilith were removed from the Christian story and a patriarch put in place that exists to this day. The beauty I see in my daughter and granddaughters is pure, and what this sickened world might do to their innocent beauty pisses me off. Christianity is the lie upon which all other lies have been built. Well hey, it felt good to get that off my chest. I dedicate this anger to every comment troll, xtian apologist and stubborn cult of christ member I’ve ever had the bad time of meeting.

I have yet to talk about my personal spiritual experience while reading the bible in 1988 after being bedridden after a car wreck. I love the bible, the Nag Hammadi Gnostic scriptures, the Dead Sea Scrolls and their mystical teachings. I love the Gita, Buddhism, quantum physics and most of all I dig LOVE. I want to live again in the Golden Age. Are we there yet? Raise vibes, not flags :)

Serving the System – How Free Are You, Really?

The system teaches us that we are dumb creatures who just don’t get it. Somehow we are always too late, too slow, too uneducated to fulfill the guidelines that are put there in front of us. It teaches us that we are incapable of observing the world in which we live in.

All decision making has been eliminated from of our lives; the only decision you can make is to cooperate with the authorities who rule upon every aspect of your life. The old woman is never satisfied with us; she says we can do much better if we work just hard enough.

Observation is a natural gift given to all beings on this planet to be able to sustain themselves independently, and exactly this independence is the basis for a harmonious life with others.

Are You Independent?

First of all, everything you will read in this article is based on my personal observations and studies, and not on scientific evidence. ‘Scientific’ in the sense that it was neither tested in a laboratory nor artificially reproduced. Will this material still be of any value for you? Find out.

Everything Which is Not ‘Scientifically Proven’ – Does Not Exist

Whenever I write something which is not ‘scientifically proven’ – I can be sure to have a fierce debate down in the comment section, where everything will be torn apart into particles to ‘prove’ that everything I said is ‘incorrect’.

I’m amazed at the level of credit the scientific community has gotten through the years; it has reached levels of an astonishing follower-ship, where information put forward from institutions is taken ‘as is’ – no questions asked.

Their status is really huge since the inception of the rule that everything must be scientifically proven. We’ve finally got rid of quasi-knowledge, religious hysteria, and most of all ‘personal opinions’.

So that if you want to prove that something exists, you must be able to reproduce it artificially in a controlled environment. However, I need to stretch that not anyone is allowed to do that but people who have the proper education to do so.

Even while writing this article, I always have in mind the scientific approach; I need to give you the whole story, the proper balance, the pros and cons, so that you might be able to draw your own conclusion on the basis of an unbiased selection of this material presented to you.

This is what you expect, you need to have the impression that I’m qualified to write about such topics, and that I will be able to back up my claims with sources, which lead all the way to the scientific community, which has enabled me to speak on this subject – in the first place.

Don’t Believe Anything I Say

But what if I can’t do that, or what if I just don’t give a damn? The thing is that I wouldn’t be doing it for me, but for you, to convince you that I know something that is worth sharing with you. However, why should I convince you of anything?

I think you are perfectly able to judge this information for yourself. This is what this whole article is about: Are we able to observe something, to have our original experience, and to understand it as something which happened to us for a reason?

Something which has no back-up, but our own understanding and evaluation of what happened? Does it have any significance outside your own perception? Can other people benefit from it? I mean – does your judgement count at all? This is what I want to talk about today.

Pick and Choose

The curse of duality wants it to be that you are wither in favor of something or you are against it. You can’t just pick and choose and put your own story together for one simple reason: You are not qualified.

I have said it so many times; we are not aware of the fact that everything we know was delivered to us ‘as is’ and that the illusion of an actual choice is more or less a game installed to entertain you.

As George Carlin put it: You choose whether you want to pay with ‘paper or plastic’, sit in a ‘smoking or non-smoking’, but what you don’t realize is that the actual palette of choices has been pre-defined. You can choose among 23 flavors of ice-cream, but you’ll have ice-cream nevertheless.

Left Smack or Right Smack?

Voting is another thing which gives us the illusion of choice. Of course you have your annual voting day – be it local or federal – however, the people that are put there as ‘choices’ have gone through the whole party apparatus, carefully selected and prepared by the party leaders, to give you the ‘opportunity’ to choose between two or maybe three political options.

But just imagine what this guy had to do to become a candidate: Do you think he (or she) could press for his own ideas while climbing the political hierarchy system inside the party he belongs to?

What chances are there to elect delegates with a completely opposed view to party politics? What kind of person will be favoured by party leaders? Is it the revolutionary or is it obedient? What do you think? Will the leadership try to protect itself from people who might be a danger to them after handing over their power?

Or do you think they will even take their chances on it? Whoever is selected must not endanger any of the current power structures or policies. You might think – so what? Every party wants to push their agenda – so what’s the big deal?

Cosmetician or Game Changer

Do you really believe it is possible to make any serious – not cosmetic – changes inside a system which is inherently opposed to any kind of progressiveness? I understand that people still like to vote, because it gives them a sense of relief to feel like they are the one who is actually deciding something and not the other way around, as it usually is.

But the names are there on the list – beforehand – all you can do is pick between person A, B, C, or D (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and lemon) – but don’t forget: you choose among flavors and not what you are going to eat.

Have you ever thought about: who are these guys and where do they come from? What is their background? How did they work their way to the top? Do you think they had to make concessions, perhaps even compromise their revolution to be able to climb the ladder?

Wrapping it Up

Do you think it is possible to crawl your way up to the top without doing so? If you were on top – would you be in favor of a revolution?

Powerful political parties are the best filters for democracy available. Whoever wants to pursue a political career needs to go through this filter, and whoever manages to get through to the other end will not be the same person anymore – mission accomplished.

What did I mean by saying you are not qualified to pick and choose your own reality? The answer is of course in the question; this tiny little word reality which makes the whole difference. Your reality has two options: 1. Someone picked it for you. 2. You assembled it yourself.

When you step back and look at it from a distance, you’ll see that all your choices are inside a given paradigm, and not something which you invented. So when does choice really start to be a choice? Can you choose something outside the given options?

The only choice we’ve made is to hand over our choices to government and regulators who decide what’s best for us. We let them regulate every aspect of our lives – to the smallest detail – and we get angry if someone, somewhere (maybe our neighbor) manages to slip through the mashes of regulation.

We hate those people; who do they think they are? Individuals who can do what they want? The system is perfect; we help it to catch the last outlaws who think they can fly.

Regulation is My Salvation

In one of our previous posts, there was a great example how deregulation helps to improve traffic to a degree where regulation itself becomes superfluous. We are suffocating in restrictions and requirements; the amount of new legislation every year is just crazy.

The sheer amount of it, makes it almost impossible not to break a law at some instance, because you are not busy enough reading the new decisions and commandments of this week’s government’s edition of: How to complicate the lives of our fellow citizens to a maximum degree of obscurity in 666 easy to follow steps – to create the perfect working bee.

Let’s Work

I wonder how many people truly realize what their chances are to reach a satisfying degree of success inside this current system. This video shows very well what I mean.

What are your chances to become one of those 85 people? Winning the lottery is much easier than this.

This guy isn’t really important; there is an illusion sold to billions of people that if they just work hard enough they might – one day in the distant future – be rewarded for their effort.

I don’t know what you think, but I believe it’s made on purpose, to make all those people work for a handful of illusionists who are spending ‘their’ money on perverted, pointless luxury, which has no other meaning but to celebrate their own ‘genius’.

Billionaires are Not God’s Gift to Poor People

I want to give you one important hint, which shows you what philanthropy really means to them. The next time you hear that some billionaire has ‘given away’ money to charity, try to figure out if the project is a self-sustainable one, or if it is a one-time help injection which doesn’t cure the root of the problem.

The help is constructed in a way to increase dependency on further help – be it food, water, work, clothes, anything. In very rare cases, you will see that donations finance projects which will give people the opportunity to feed themselves or to provide for their own well-being.

After all – how did those people manage to survive for thousands of years without the help of billionaires?

I like what one guy sad about lions: “Neither we need to teach the lion anything, nor do we need to take care of him; he’s perfectly capable to care of himself – all you have to do is give him back his habitat – and leave him alone!”

Do you see the system behind it? Intervention or as I said earlier: regulation. People in power are obsessed to regulate everything while, in fact, all we need is to be left alone. It’s all an embarrassing degradation of humans who were perfectly able to take care of themselves without the help of those masterminds.

My simple answer to this: When you are rich, then you are afraid to lose your wealth, and you will make up all sorts of stories and ‘substantialities’ to make people believe that they need you.

Helping people to be Helpless

I know that many people see Bill Gates and his wife as some sort of angels – or something – but if you take a good look at their projects, you’ll see that all they do is giving you (and them) the imagery of great humanitarians, while, in fact, they do nothing to increase self-sustainability in those countries.

I’ve witnessed projects myself which have asked for money from The Gates Foundation, and they were never included, and all had one thing in common: long-term, self-sustainable solutions.

Sustainability is not giving vaccines for polio or malaria, but to show people how to re-green areas, which had been devastated through extensive deforestation. Thanks to permacultureit is possible to re-green those areas again, and give people the essential tool for a dignified life.

Corporations are buying up land to cultivate plants for bio-diesel or export mountains of trash to third-world countries, contaminating their land, water, and living conditions, and afterwards, those same people come along to give them ‘injections’ – to do good – to help them.

It’s a masquerade; those people have the best PR agencies in the world to initiate these campaigns from which they financially benefit as well. The worst thing of it all is: they actually believe they are doing a good thing out there.

They want to change the whole world rather than change themselves; I think I have heard this definition somewhere before. And please don’t give me this sweet talk: “But they are helping people!” Yes, they are helping them, to make you say exactly what you just said.

A Billionaire’s Curse Word: Sustainability

I’m not sure if you understand where I’m going with this. The real projects, the real solutions are already out there. They’ve been tested successfully, but there is no money available for them – because they work.

I’ve seen projects in India where people have planted whole forests for the cost of less than $50,000. In Jordan, fruit trees grow in the middle of a desert, and so on. It all exists already, but those inventions are being marginalized on purpose, because they are providing solutions which are mind-blowing.

At least in one thing most people do agree – an intact environment nourishes people more than sufficiently, and outside help from good-hearted billionaires becomes – unnecessary.

And this is the key problem – now I come full circle – no one wants you to become ‘intact’, ‘successful’, ‘self-sufficient’, because if this happens, you don’t need a billionaire anymore to preach you the ‘work-hard-and-you-succeed’ line.

No, you are finally able to live your life in a perfectly natural and sane way, which is worth living, which does not demand to work over hours just to pay your rent, and to eat the cheapest food you can get from your local supermarket.

I know many people disagree, because they are fed the overpopulation line; but if you only understood that the biggest problem is our own mismanagement (which leads to overpopulation) and not the scarcity of resources.

Plants and Water Equal Life

In the West, people quickly lose the feel for money. We read about billions and trillions, but do we really understand those figures? I believe not. For the cost of one warship, you can regreen areas which are ungraspable to you, because the cost of doing so in those countries is just a fraction of what it would cost in the West.

Those enthusiasts sometimes work with no money at all; they are investing their own ‘horsepower’ to do as much as they can. And what they accomplish is unbelievable, and now imagine if you gave them the money and resources to do what they actually dream of.

You have no idea what these guys can do. I have seen people greening areas so huge – it takes your breath away when you look at it. Plants are the basis for life on this planet. They provide food and shelter, water and habitat for animals, which all equals one word: abundance.

One thing is certain; you won’t be able to buy food-derivatives from financial markets, because: you can’t eat them.

You are Qualified to Live Your Life

This whole system is designed to keep you reliant on it and to give you the feeling that you are not qualified to live your life independently. But not in the sense of ‘alone’; in the sense of together but ‘left alone’ from government, regulations, restrictions, billionaires, trillionaires, and other redundant entities.

The fact is; you’ve been designed to live your life – yes in cooperation – but independently as an individual who is capable of making his own decisions based on one’s own observations.

Every plant, every animal knows how to sustain itself without destroying the environment in which it lives. Permaculture follows the natural law: Give back more than you take. And if you take a good look at how nature functions; you’ll see that this rule applies everywhere.

One Plus One is Three

If we tap back into the natural system, we’ll be able – once again – to live an independent, yet harmonious life in cooperation with nature and other human beings. The rat race is an error which has cost us greatly; it has brought nothing but exploitation and destruction for the gain of a very small number of people. Where’s the mathematics, here?

In a world of so much ‘thinking’, and ‘logic’, and ‘science’, we do the most illogical things on the planet. We are thankful for the opportunity to engage in this race, which benefits no one. How good are the theories in which we believe in, if they bring about such a society? Are they still valid? Where’s the logic, here?

Go For a Walk

Next time when you go for a walk, and if there is a possibility, go into a forest – maybe a really old forest – then ask yourself: Is there any problem here? Or even just something problematic? Exploitation? Destruction?

Or do you see an omnipresent harmony of which you are actually a part of? This is no esoteric stuff, just ask yourself this simple question when you are there, and you will feel where you are actually coming from.

Take LSD, Stay Out of Prison? Large Study Links Psychedelic Use to Reduced Recidivism

Well sure, it dissolves the Ego. Should members of congress, the President, and corporate moguls be made to take LSD? Hell yes!! Grace Slick was almost successful in slipping Richard Nixon some acid in the 60s.

A study of more than 25,000 people under community corrections supervision suggests the use of psychedelic drugs like LSD can keep people out of prison.

The research is the first in 40 years to examine whether drugs like LSD and “magic” mushrooms can help reform criminals.

“Our results provide a notable exception to the robust positive link between substance use and criminal behavior,” the researchers from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine wrote in their study, which was published in the January issue of the Journal of Psychopharmacology.

“They add to both the older and emerging body of data indicating beneficial effects of hallucinogen interventions, and run counter to the legal classification as well as popular perception of hallucinogens as categorically harmful substances with no therapeutic potential.”

Psychedelic substances piqued the interest of researchers beginning in the 1950s. Studies indicated that the drugs could be combined with psychotherapy to treat a number of conditions, including alcoholism and drug addiction.

But scientific investigations into the therapeutic potential of LSD, psilocybin, mescaline, and other psychedelic drugs ground to a halt in the 1970s, when they were outlawed by the federal Controlled Substances Act.

“Offenders may be especially likely to benefit from hallucinogen treatment because involvement in the criminal justice system often results from drug-seeking behavior and impulsive conduct exacerbated by compulsive substance use,” the researchers explained in the study.

From 2002 to 2007, the researchers collected data on 25,622 individuals under community corrections supervision in Treatment Accountability for Safer Communities (TASC), a program for individuals with a history of drug abuse.

Only about 1 percent of those in the program were diagnosed with a hallucinogen use disorder. Cannabis use disorders, cocaine use disorders, and alcohol use disorders were the most common diagnoses in the group.

The researchers found those diagnosed with a hallucinogen use disorder were less likely to fail the TASC program compared to those without a hallucinogen use disorder. That means those with a hallucinogen use disorder were less likely to violate TASC rules or other legal requirements, less likely to fail to appear in court, and less likely to be incarcerated.

The study controlled for a large number of potentially confounding factors, including race, employment, marital status, age, criminal history, drug abuse history, gender, educational attainment, and more.

“The current findings should not at all be interpreted as advocating for recreational hallucinogen use. Nevertheless, they demonstrate that, in a real-world, substance-related intervention setting, hallucinogen use is associated with a lower probability of poor outcome,” the researchers wrote.

“We believe this calls for the continued scientific investigation of this unique class of substances.”

Everything I See is Me

I AM . . . life.

In life, every single instant and interaction exists for the growth of the self and the universe into the highest harmony of All That Is.  Toaists like to refer to this as the Tai Chi, or the Supreme Ultimate, which can also be described as Unity.  At the center of all existence is the infinite singularity of All That Is Here and Now, the roar of Ohm, the spark of transcendent being-ness that permeates the entire universe.

This is the universal substrate from which you and I and every single being of energy in the universe arises.  An amazing thing about the Supreme Ultimate is that it holds within itself all of the infinite potential and possibilities in the universe, yet it itself is beyond differentiation.  In this way it is referred to as chaotic unity, and is at the center of all being.

What happens next is the story that is told in countless different cultures in countless different ways, yet with one penultimate constant.  Creation, differentiation, the unfolding of the tree of life, the fractioning of the whole into the boundless possibilities of existence in the universe.  In this process arose the myriad forms and states of being that energy manifest in and occupy.

At the center of being lies a paradox, for Unity contains within itself the possibility of its own negation, it’s own opposite.  This is the perspective of separation, the linchpin of theego mind, and is the root of all injustice, negativity, pain, and darkness in the world.  And it is completely necessary.  As infinite beings of consciousness within Unity, the illusion of separateness exists for us to understand the difference between the two.

This is the penultimate question, penned so simply by William Shakespeare in ‘Hamlet.’  To be, or not to be.

These concepts appear to be contradictory, appear to be negate and deny each other, yet they are only different perspectives, different manners in which to view the vastness of the universe.  Duality is not a static state, as our dominant cultural and scientific paradigms would have us believe.  For from this separation arises the constant integration and balance between these two ‘opposing’ perspectives.

We are in the midst of this process, called the moment, which is the endless integration of duality into itself.  We are a part of the endless ebb and flow of energy in the perpetual, dynamic equilibrium of existence.

The mechanism that allows us to navigate and experience the boundless aspects of the universe is called choice, a concept that we are all aware of.  This is the free will that is fundamental to all being, and this is what allows us to experience the universe from different perspectives.  Some may be darker than others, some may be more comfortable, there may even be a particular flavor in infinity that you enjoy more than others.

No matter which way we choose to view the universe, our perspective is valid.  It may, however, not be the most effective or the most harmonious.  It may only encompass a fraction of the infinite being-ness that is present, and that is ok.  In fact, it’s great.  Yet it is still a part of the whole as well, an integral factor of Unity, and an essential part of the journey home into All That Is.

To be infinite is our natural state of being, it is where we come from and where we always are and will be.  We don’t need to do anything to be in this state.  On the contrary, we actually need to un-do, we need to no longer choose to be fractured and separate.  We need let go of our attachments to specific outcomes and moments in space and time.

We allow ourselves to be infinite by not creating any limits upon our being.

In doing so, we return to wholeness.  In All That Is, we are all of the infinite potential and all of the infinite form.  We relax, we let go, and we enjoy the glorious dance of existence through the endless eternities of the now.

Seed catalogs are starting to arrive in mailboxes across the Northern Hemisphere with home gardeners everywhere starting to plan which seeds they will sow in their spring gardens.

A positive trend in recent years is the growing number of gardening enthusiasts choosing to plant gardens using organic and/or heirloom seeds.

What most of these home gardeners don’t realize is that corporate behemoth and GMO titan Monsanto has been gobbling up the seed market faster than a caterpillar can munch a tomato plant! With one fell swoop in 2005, Monsanto grabbed approximately 40% of the US vegetable seed market with its acquisition of Seminis.

This means that a home gardener could unknowingly be supporting the development and proliferation of genetically modified crops if the seeds used are from Seminis.  In addition, Monsanto now apparently owns many of the names of the seed varieties themselves!

Planting a sustainable home garden is much more than just choosing certified organic seeds and seedlings because Monsanto has cleverly positioned itself to make money off the home gardening trend.

Does this mean that even if you buy organic or heirloom seeds from a completely independent company some of your purchase might be supporting the bad guys?

Yes, it does.

Surprise!

Home gardeners would do well to bone up on where to purchase their seeds so they aren’t inadvertently doing business with companies that maintain a working relationship with Monsanto-Seminis or were acquired by them.

My friend Beth in Minnesota, an avid food researcher, has been digging around to figure out the best ways to buy seeds and seedlings for your home garden without one red cent going to Monsanto.

Buying Organic or Heirloom Seeds Without Supporting Monsanto

Beth has done her very best to make sure the information she has uncovered is current and pertinent with updated listings for the 2013 growing season.  Here are the steps she recommends for those who want to truly strike a blow for sustainability in every way with their home gardens:

The Purpose of Life

“It is in the finest reach of man’s consciousness that God abides or reveals himself most fully.” –K.K. Nair/Krishna Chaitanya

The above sentence, written by the brilliant and renowned Indian scholar K.K. Nair/Krishna Chaitanya, expresses to me the most profoundly beautiful of thoughts. For after all is said and done, what’s it all about? Why did the creator make this awesome universe and wrap Itself within us mortals? Just for play? For ‘sport’ as some of the Sanskrit texts say?

Perhaps in the long run there is no possibility of ever permanently fixing, healing, and making right this world, as hard as we may try and breaking our hearts in the effort. We will always be caught in the flux of temporality as time washes over us, assailing our consciousness from storm to shore.

We cannot hope to resolve things here, especially in the Kali Yuga. We can only act in every given moment to the highest and greatest extent of our ability. That ‘momentary best’ will surely not be the result of being drowned in pop-consumer-culture, in media manipulation, or in piles of possessions that only bring a fleeting empty satisfaction.

The Quality & Consciousness of Our Actions

Thus we are left to understand this: What truly matters is that we focus on the quality and consciousness of our actions rather than their results. In these sad and degenerate days, most are driven by consumption, by stupid greed, and the anger that destroys intelligence.

Urged on by our endless fears and insecurities, perhaps under the hazy spell of alcohol or drug induced compulsions, we commit acts we inevitably regret. We take actions that leave us scarred, unfulfilled, hopeless, and isolated from our fellow man. It’s called sin. The metaphysical meaning of sin is the state of being deluded by attachment.

Happy mystics often say that God is irresistible. Surely we can all hope to reconnect with what is less temporal, less vulnerable to Hamlet’s “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.” We all carry the hope of finding and abiding in the ineluctable eternal, because we all sense its presence somewhere deep within each and every one of us, if only we could find the key.

I often try to imagine my consciousness back in the Satya Yuga, the Golden Age, when I knew that I was a particle of the Creator wrapped in the beginnings of a grand illusory adventure. The adventure is illusory only in the sense that it is temporal, subject to death and dissolution. There is nothing in the external world that will not decay, rot and ruin, and die in time. This world is an ephemeral, impermanent, fleeting adventure. It is not eternal, immutable and imperishable, like the God-within.

The illusion seems real enough when we are lost in it. Certainly the adventure is not illusory to the five senses when we run into that proverbial brick wall. Ouch! Our deluded attachment to the perceived apparent reality of the holographic illusion steadily grows, as our consciousness is ever moving through Time towards density from one cycle of time down into the next. Thus we perceive a kind of ‘solidification’ of matter (Rene Guenon). The veil we ourselves create thickens, and by the Kali Yuga, the Age of Conflict & Confusion, we have forgotten.

The Satya Yuga

I like to imagine our consciousness in the golden Satya Yuga era. We are in that time filled with bliss consciousness. We do not need other beings to experience fulfillment. We spend our time in contemplation because that is where our Bliss is! We do not need anyone to flatter our still undeveloped ego. We know to go within and create the consciousness we have always known – our eternal Self that remains forever pure and untouched by what will envelope us in the coming yugas.

Because in that now lost golden frequency, we are closer to the vast ocean of Love that underlies this universe. The comfort and strength that comes from Bliss consciousness and real Knowledge allows us to be curious, to wonder what we might do if we are cut off from such Knowledge and our source of Bliss. What will we do? We are drawn into the hologram. Will the compulsions of the five senses overwhelm our memory? Can we remain calm and serene, intelligent and therefore, courageous.

Will the God that eternally abides within reveal Itself in the finest reach of our human consciousness, even in the darkest of days here in the confusion of the Kali Yuga. Surely the exploration of this secret sacred place, meaning, the finest reach of man’s consciousness, is the reason we all came into this universe. The purpose of Life is to immerse ourselves and revel in the great adventure of God veiling Itself within us all, and to one day awaken to smile those mysterious compassionate smiles of Krishna and Buddha and many others.

People need encouragement: we really do, because we’re in for some changes that we might experience as painful and unjust. We also need information and honesty. Justice can be welcomed… or not. But it will come because it’s natural law… energy goes out, energy comes back around: everything gets resolved perfectly in the end.

We can accept it as mathematics; truth, light of different densities, information, and love, plus grace. Grace: that’s the little fraction in our favor – life favors life. To me it just adds up that way, and it makes sense. So that’s my encouragement… nurture the virtue within and trust in Grace.

Lightness of being: I heard Deepak say we want that. Yes, I do agree to lightness! I meditate; and the benefit is superb. I read articles online and listen to videos: so much info it’s like a consciousness superhighway. I cherish the moments of detachment, pausing in the ‘Now’. Life is a precious evolutionary experience and we’re here… in it! This is our chance to evolve; maybe clean up some past stuff, or help out in the renewal.

We can do virtue and truth, and love and lightness: this is the beauty of being human. And yet, we live within an ‘edge of the abyss’ darkness: we call it the matrix, or the control system. It operates on deceit and feeds on fear, and so is tightening the grip on us as we awaken.

The task for those with warm hearts, born at this extraordinary time: dwell in courage, prepare for valor, stay in love with Self and others and nature, and ‘dig’ the truth… humble up to it wherever it goes. No worries… you’ll be safe in the heart space.

I’m going to start this ‘crone-style’ essay by taking a look in the matrix. What we’re looking for is our blind spots.

We are individuals: spirit in body. Perhaps the information of us has reincarnated after a life experience in a totally different place with a totally different people, i.e. maybe I lived in a rain forest… the smell is so familiar… but that is simply speculation. If it helps that’s fine… but you can’t stand on it. Let’s keep going.

In this life quite a few of us in the consciousness movement were born into the identities and cultures of ‘white people’. Why mention race? Aren’t we all parts of one vast consciousness? If you listen to an Afrodescendant or Indigenous leader, they’ll say the earth has four families… four peoples: black, brown, red and yellow. If it matters to them, and they are far older in the earth than we are, it matters in the renewal. So I mention race because… why dodge it? That would make it a blind spot.

We learn from the spiritual experiences of racial and tribal groupings… collectives contain ancient knowledge. In the matrix there are races, cultures, peoples, tribes; and they have relationships with each other, and histories. The individuals within these races have ‘feeling’ memories as well as DNA memories.

Karma: Perhaps long ago races and peoples made collective spiritual agreements to experience certain things, somewhat in the same manner that individuals enter into life to gain empirical knowledge and evolve through experience. Maybe white people made a ‘collective evolution’ agreement too – we agreed that a number of us would awaken, understand, and assist in the great change. I don’t see it as far-fetched. Over the years I’ve observed and listened, and warmed to the idea.

It’s an attribute of the ‘white’ race to get out there and explore, and we’re doing it. It’s also an attribute of ours to borrow from older peoples’ spiritual knowledge. Some people say we ‘co-opt’ it, while others say… as long as you humbly acknowledge where it came from, understand it properly, and show reverence for the originators, it’s all good.

The consciousness movement has acculturated much ancient knowledge. We have been intellectually consuming it, and rapidly, as if we are heading back running… and that’s good too. Growth and transformation of ourselves is one of our hungers, and our ‘positives’. We have run with the information, modernized it, westernized it, bravely explored its boundaries, and widely shared. Have we understood it properly? One would hope that a certain percent have.

As the youngest of the human families we display that self confidence and foolhardiness of the young. We also show a very strong motivation to act. What do we know and feel? If a karmic tsunami is on the way, well, we’re stuck in a geographic location, national and cultural identity, and racial grouping that has done, and is doing, some major dirty work on the families of the earth and the earth itself. If what goes around is coming around, change is a Priority for us.

I remember listening to a television host who is well known for his ‘rants’. He was talking about the plan of the control system… they want to eliminate us! Genocide! He talked about their plan to put us in camps. Slavery! As I was listening, I thought, “Damn… has he no memory?” He lives in the U.S. The genocide and slavery he anticipates look an awful lot like a karmic return. We just haven’t experienced it happening to us… the white folks. Now that the fear of it is rising, what element are we missing? Do we need a healing strategy?

I suspect that we do have a role to play, a healing impulse if not a strategy, and we have evolved into it over the past 50 years. I see us tipping the scale toward renewal and restoration for those who received, and are still receiving the brunt of the matrix grab for power and resources. That is a tremendous change in our collective consciousness, and I have watched it happen in my years of life. I like it very much. We have been putting our hearts in order.

Far more than before, Indigenous and Afrodescendant peoples can look to us for back-up. And we haven’t gone through this transformation to save our butts… we’ve done it because we see the truth of it. We have turned toward our mothers and fathers. What a good move.

It seems to me that white people need restoration too. Now you might ask why, since we are the ones who have been consuming the world’s resources. Well, in the comments section on one of the websites I visit, I saw a statement that pretty much said it: “We have been used, abused, manipulated… and given a false sense of who we are.” Amen to that!

Who has given us a false sense of who we are? Was it the mystery God in the sky or the wise serpent? I’m thinking it was both: in the form of the families at the top, always with us, feeding us a sense of separation and specialness. “Be the great white hope, dominate with your intellect, manifest your destiny, you’re a ‘civilized’ race, go forth with your culture and religion, the world and all in it is yours to use and take… because you could be like us if you try hard enough, and we’re special.”

There’s a cure for that specialness disease and we have been studying it: oneness, humility, and an attitude of reverence and service… and remembrance. These things are not that difficult to achieve… not now.

Finally… on the matrix: it’s structured by the minds of the powerful, greedy, great deceivers. Even the Bible told on them: the wicked in high places. We talk about exposing them, resisting them, opposing them, or slipping away and out of the grid. We truly don’t know what they are capable of… but we do know they have no mercy, no love of life. And they have no law that rules them, except the karmic one.

Are you still in the heart space? I know… it is a stretch to tie detachment to remembrance to healing. It’s another stretch to tie lightness of being to karmic return to action. But I have no doubt we can do it, and we are doing it… we are choosing.

PsyWar: A Short History of the Battle for the Mind

As with all totalitarian regimes, the black/white or the good/bad Baby Bush “You’re either with us or you’re with the Terrorists” – binary rhetoric lies at the heart of the Global Power Elite’s PsyWar technology.

In 2004, Denis Boneau, a French journalist writing for the Voltaire Network, published an article called “The Science of World Domination”  (www.voltairenet.org/The-Science-of-World-Domination), making an excellent summary of key milestones in the development of the United States’ post-World War II Global Psychological Warfare Strategy.

He starts by describing the Truman Doctrine of “Containment” of the former Soviet Union that was based on the so-called “long telegram” sent to the State Department in 1946 by an advisor in the US embassy in Moscow – and key Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) scholar – George S. Kennan.

Shortly afterwards, Kennan was called back to the US to brief his superiors more fully and his recommendations were finally published in the July 1947 issue of Foreign Affairs, the official journal of the CFR, as “The Sources of Soviet Conduct.” This became known as the “X” article because that’s how Kennan signed it, as there was still heated debated as to whether it would become official US foreign policy.

It did. With his highly influential article, Kennan gave birth to the US policy of “Containment” of the Soviet Union which consisted in blocking the expansion of communism through the control of national emancipationist movements that could lead to greater power to pro-socialist or nationalist leaders.

As official policy, “Containment” required the collaboration of experts capable of providing geographical, economic, cultural, psychological and sociological data useful to the US Armed Forces and the intelligence community, working very closely with key think tanks like the CFR.

Thus began the Cold War which Kennan and the US Government believed would give the United States a historic opportunity to assume leadership over what they would eventually describe as the “Free World.” With time, as the Global Power Elite became more deeply embedded inside the US and British public and private power structures (and that of their key allies), that “leadership” would end up encompassing practically the whole planet.

In a way, one can say that the CFR in conjunction with other think-tank and university scholars – George Kennan, Henry Kissinger, Leo Strauss, Zbigniew Brzezinski included – single-handedly started and macro-managed last century’s forty-five year long Cold War.

As part of that global strategy, 1947 also saw the Truman Administration sanction the National Security Act which, amongst other things, created the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) tasked with designing, planning and executing “propaganda, economic war, direct preventive action, sabotage, anti-sabotage, destruction, subversion against hostile States, assistance to clandestine liberation movements, guerrilla, murders, assistance to indigenous groups opposed to the enemy countries of the ‘free world’…

What is Psychological Warfare?

Boneau defines Psychological Warfare (PsyWar) as a number of actions ranging from radio propaganda to torture, that require comprehensive information on targeted populations. In a document written in 1948, American ground forces defined “psychological warfare” as follows:

“It is based on moral and physical means different from those upon which orthodox military techniques are based on. Its purpose is: (a) To destroy the will and the fighting spirit of the enemy and avoid its allies’ support and, (b) To encourage our troops and our allies’ will of being victorious.”

PsyWar uses every possible weapon and tool to influence and impact the will of the enemy. Such “weapons” are labelled “psychological” because of their effect and not because of their own nature. This is the reason why, open propaganda (“white”), secret (“black”) or “grey” propaganda – subversion, sabotage, murders, special operations, guerrilla, espionage, political, economic and racial and ethnic pressures – are all considered useful PsyWar weapons.

To implement such programs, the intelligence services recruited specialists on behavioural sciences capable of inventing the “simple, clear and repetitive” white propaganda and black propaganda aimed at provoking “disorder, confusion and… terror” within the enemy forces.

We thus begin to fathom that the so-called “Arab Spring” of today did not just suddenly and spontaneously explode in 2011, but was rather hatched from an “egg” laid decades ago and brooded by the secret intelligence agencies.

“White” Propaganda

This began in the 40’s and 50’s with Project Troy that mobilised top scholars to identify available means of transmitting the “truth” (i.e., US propaganda) behind the Iron Curtain through powerful radio transmitters like the Voice of America, the broadcasting network created by the International Information Service (IIS), another PsyWar institution created under the Truman Administration.

Voice of America was used to promote US “values” of so-called “democracy,” the “American Way of Life,” “freedom” and Corporate Capitalism. A key leader of Project Troy was James Webb, adviser to Secretary of State Dean Acheson and a “psychological warfare” operative who recommended university experts and the government to work closer.

They soon realised, however, that Voice of America was not enough to penetrate the Iron Curtain and supported by the US Navy and the CIA, they suggested other channels to implement “white” propaganda: university exchanges, publications of books, information through the mail, professional journals, commerce and industrial publications.

Truman also created the Psychological Strategy Board encouraging studies of “Soviet society” through a program of recruiting dissidents called Project CENIS – Centre for International Studies – at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) directed by CFR operative Max Millikan.

This worked so well that in 1950 the US Air Force commissioned and funded similar research on the Korean population. Wilbur Schramm, the founding father of the mass communication paradigm, John Ridley and Fredericks Williams were given the mission of interviewing anti-communist refugees to draw up a suitable propaganda strategy on Korea. The study also resulted in the establishment of the “Public Opinion Quarterly” (POQ), the official magazine of “psychological warfare” community.

In the 1963 Project Camelot was created that defined process models leading to national revolutions in Third World countries to facilitate counter-insurgence operations. Camelot is a good example of the strengthening ties between behavioural scholars and the US Intelligence community (i.e., intel services, universities, major corporations, think-tanks and the Military). It facilitated interventions in Yemen, Cuba and the Congo, and helped foresee and prevent the risk of revolution.

In Chile, operating through the Special Operations Research Office (SORO), Project Camelot supported CIA plans to overthrow the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende imposing General Augusto Pinochet’s military junta on Chile on 11 September 1973.

Psychological Warfare Strategy development also counted on key universities dealing in Communication Sciences to develop the “mass communication” paradigm financed by the US Military, the CIA and the State Department. This led to effective propaganda used to penetrate the Iron Curtain through different means, including leaflets and broadcasting. The discipline’s field of study was wide: persuasion techniques, opinion polls, interviews, military and political mobilisations, ideological dissemination…

They have now come a long way thanks to dramatic breakthroughs in communications and information technologies, where propaganda and PsyWar have to a great extent been outsourced and privatised. Today, their main PsyWar weapons include TV, radio, press and internet outlets such as Fox, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, New York Times, Newsweek, BBC, RTVE, RAI, Time, Daily Telegraph, Sun, Mirror, Daily News, Reuters, Jerusalem Post and their global subsidiaries and dependants.

Most importantly, this process also encompasses that key arm of social engineering and thought deformation known as the “entertainment industry” with Hollywood as its main hub and flagship.

Dirty Tricks Departments

From the very beginning, torture was considered a research field in social sciences. During the Korean War, the BSSR (main “black” propaganda research centre) was charged with carrying out studies for the Army to identify Eastern Europe population’s “vulnerability targets and factors” while defining different “aspects of psychological violence.” BSSR reported on the effects of traditional interrogation techniques – electric shocks, blows, drugs – all funded in part by the CIA, especially on the populations of Viet Nam and Africa, geared at improving torture effectiveness.

The paradigm of mass communication was inserted in a broader intellectual plan consisting in the division of the world map based on the American strategists’ logic. The patriarch of this discipline, Wilbur Schramm (as did Leo Strauss), offered a perspective of this reductionist dimension of communication sciences based on the “good guys/bad guys” antagonism, where communism symbolised “Evil” and America symbolised “Good.” This was shared by the majority of the intellectuals and scientists supporting the US government in its fight against Soviet expansionism where neutrality was considered treason.

In 2001, the Bush Administration reactivated these Cold War mechanisms, not to fight the Soviet Union but to impose a “New World Order.” Since 11 September 2001, the excuse for this reactivation is “The War on Terror.” Once again the intelligence community turned to universities: the CIA’s director of scientific research, John Philips, took control of the Rochester Institute of Technology; Michael Crawl, deputy director of the CIA’s joint economic association in the computer sector was appointed dean of the University of Arizona, and Robert Gates (former CIA director under Bush Senior) before becoming Bush/Obama’s Pentagon Chief was president of Texas A&M University.

Alas! Nothing new under the sun…

The Sin of Eve?

Our children are beyond us; even if they haven’t grown into it yet, they will take some aspect of us onward. At age five my mother asked me to pray to a male presence in the sky for forgiveness and mercy. I did as she asked. I don’t mind that I did that… it gave both of us peace.

Now let’s take the same moment forward and I’ll respond again: “Mom, how about if I pray to us instead. The universe is holographic and my mind is a hologram… so is yours: perfect and complete replicas of the whole. God is in Me and You too. Will you offer me forgiveness and mercy? I love you.”

Feeling is energy, and the transmission of feeling is much stronger than words. Had I been able to express the consciousness of divinity within as a child, my mother would have felt fear… both for herself and for me. Oh how she feared the specter of divine punishment for ‘diminishing’ God into human form… or did she? It’s possible she feared contradicting or diminishing my father’s belief. We want to be loved, we want to please, and we fear ‘deep-level’ revelations that may result in emotional pain.

Children will naturally do their best to accommodate the culture they are born into and they will absorb the feeling: they are vulnerable and an empty book… but not quite. They’re not empty of their higher selves. Someone is in there questioning, ‘knowing’ in an innocent way, noticing things, asking questions, and rebelling a bit. There is someone who wants to Be, but who doesn’t know ‘Battle’.

I’ve come to realize how fortunate I am in that my early upbringing offered parents that were just right for my journey; plus abundant nature, companionship and many spiritual concepts upon which to expand later in life. Returning within the spiral, after years of transmuting childhood experiences through adult relationships, what remains to be examined is my mother’s fear and my father’s heavy heart: the imbalance of masculine and feminine.

On a book stand in my home is a little ruby red candy dish. It’s one of my mother’s things… an object that I have carried with me for years. She, like the ruby candy dish, was a colorful container for sweetness and enjoyment. But something happened to temper her joy. I can look back and say imbalance… separation, made fearsome by a male God and the epic sin of Eve, but was that it? Was that all of it?

Every human is the sum of their aspects: only waiting to be re-membered. And, duality is the foundation of creation. We have believed ourselves separate… masculine and feminine. But within each individual we find both the masculine and feminine polarities: the yang and the yin, the light and the dark, the thought and the feeling, the single ‘I’ and the ‘I and I’. The kingdom of God is within. We have heard the masters say that… but do we all know that?

We must not know it quite yet. We are now in a world so far out of balance that we are facing obliteration. Why did the world begin to tip, and then tip more and more in order to reach this point where we actually see the devastating result and ask the question?

Did masculine reason and the thinking mind evolve and disassociate from feminine feeling? Let’s have a look. Which one of these ‘theologies’ is true: ‘I think therefore I Am’ (the ‘I’) or ‘Who feels it knows it’ (the ‘I and I’)? No… feeling is not emotion. It is the intuitive and instantaneous knowing of the energy and information of a thing. It is perception: information Felt. It is the perfect counterbalance to reason – the actual spark of creation. Even the revered scientist will state: I came to the question through reason, but the answer came through feeling, intuition, perception… suddenly I knew something that was beyond my thought.

Now we are coming into realization of our inner duality, and we are called to bring the poles together… to love the divine feminine, and love the divine masculine as equal forces in creation. Need I say that this ‘inner marriage’ doesn’t take away from the masculinity of a man or the femininity of a woman. Yes, women can reason and men can feel… this capacity to enjoy the ‘opposite’ polarity within doesn’t take away from who we are. It adds to our being, and makes us whole.

But we do have some lingering effects to clean up… actually, quite a few. Assertions that, “My mother did this to me, my father did that, women are like this, men are like that.” Many people experience their relationships as contests over whose will reigns supreme, and because of this, the really deep doors are closed. Oh that we could heal this separation! Seems the recovery of natural balance would then be possible.

And please don’t think I’m pointing the finger at men: we are equally as messed up. Imagine if the Queen of England could feel… if her ‘I and I’ were operational. She possesses enough wealth to feed every hungry child. If she could feel, would there be a starving child in her ‘realm’?

The feminine essence is the lover indeed, if only she can be reached. She is the content of my mother’s ruby candy dish, or better yet, the garden behind the gate. And what is the key to the gate? Not just a compatible energy between the polarities; but a refined, sensuous, compelling, loving energy.

I’m sure you have heard of the Biblical Song of Solomon. Most likely you also have read the love poetry of Rumi. Whether these men were adoring the feminine essence, or a female individual doesn’t really matter. What matters is what we see of the feminine: we see her receptive… calling forth and opening her deepest self to a particular quality of masculine energy.

Receptivity is the essence of the feminine, but it can’t often be found in this out of balance world. Thus the rape of the earth and the sad contest between men and women as to who will conquer whom. We’re in an agonizing state at the moment.

It seems that balance within the individual must come first: marriage of the polarities. No more fear, no more heavy heart… just a return with lessons learned as we come back around to the beginning.

Let’s conclude with a quote from the Song of Solomon… the Bride’s response: “Awake, O north wind; and come, you south; blow on my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.”

Nikola Tesla: Maverick, Visionary and Master of Light

It’s almost a cliché. Working alone, an inventive genius pioneers new devices that ultimately change the world but his genius is barely recognised and he goes on to die in relative poverty; and whilst he dies, virtually alone and unrecognised, his inventions eventually transform life across the planet.

Unfortunately it’s pretty much the story of Nikola Tesla, the scientific visionary whose inventions shaped much of the 20th century, whilst the man himself has been all but forgotten. And it is no exaggeration to call Tesla a visionary.

In contrast to many scientific pioneers who spent years developing their projects, Tesla’s ideas were often conceived and perfected in his mind’s eye in an instant.

“Birth, growth and development are phases normal and natural,” said Tesla, but, “It was different with my invention(s). In the very moment I became conscious of it, I ‘saw’ it fully developed and perfected…”

In fact these extraordinary powers of memory and visualisation were to characterise much of his life and work. One day while walking with a friend in Budapest, Tesla was reciting lines from Goethe’s Faust when the idea of a rotating magnetic field suddenly appeared before him, literally. In an instant Tesla knew how to produce the alternating current.

“Can’t you see it right here in front of me, running almost silently?” He asked his companion: “It is the rotating magnetic field that does it… Isn’t it beautiful? Isn’t it simple? My motor will set man free, it will do the work for the world.”

He was in every sense of the word a scientific visionary; he initially developed the fluorescent bulb and neon lights; he pioneered the speedometer and the car ignition system, and helped reveal the basic scientific principles behind electron microscopes, and the microwave oven. Yet apart from a small but enthusiastic following that has grown around him, most people have hardly even heard of Nikola Tesla.

Born at the stroke of midnight, July 9-10, 1856 in Similjan, Croatia, the son of a priest of the local Serbian Orthodox Church, the young Tesla quickly distinguished himself as intelligent and went on to study physics and mathematics in Gospic and electrical engineering at the Polytechnic Institute in Graz, Austria.

A turning point came in 1884 when Tesla first arrived in America but initially he wasn’t too impressed: “What I had left was beautiful, artistic and fascinating in every way.” He wrote to a friend: “What I saw here was machined, rough and unattractive.”

The young immigrant arrived with four cents in his pocket, some mathematical computations and a letter of introduction from Charles Batchelor, one of Thomas Edison’s business associates in Europe.

After a short spell working for Thomas Edison, Tesla went out on his own and by December 1887 he had filed for seven US patents. These comprised a complete system of generators, transformers, transmission lines, motors and lighting. So original were the patents that they were issued without a challenge, as would normally happen. They turned out to be the most valuable patents since the telephone.

Pittsburgh industrialist George Westinghouse heard about Tesla’s inventions and decided to investigate for himself. Acting on his sharp business instincts, Westinghouse arrived at Tesla’s lab, inspected the inventions and promptly bought the patents, which ironically were to lay the foundations for the Westinghouse Corporation, one of the pillars of the Military/Industrial complex (otherwise known as the ‘New World Order’).

The Westinghouse Corporation went on to win the bid for illuminating the World’s Fair. Held in Chicago in 1893, the fair was also the world’s first ever all-electric fair. It opened on the evening of May 1 when President Grover Cleveland pushed a button and a hundred thousand incandescent lamps illuminated the fairground’s neoclassical buildings.

Tesla inventions had arrived and they were about to illuminate not only the World Fair but also the world itself.

Unlike Westinghouse though, Tesla didn’t have any business sense, nor was he driven by any overwhelming desire to make money; instead he had vision, genius, a God given creative gift that has led some observers to liken him to a Da Vinci of the modern day sciences.

In fact it’s no exaggeration to say that Westinghouse Corporation was built on Tesla’s lack of business sense. Years of fierce competition with Edison’s Corporation had left Westinghouse financially drained and by 1896 his company’s position was looking extremely precarious.

J.P. Morgan, the Stock Market’s ‘robber baron’, saw his chance. In an effort to bring the US power industry firmly under his control he began to manipulate the Stock Market, with the intention of ruining Westinghouse and buying Tesla’s valuable patents.

In desperation, Westinghouse pleaded with Tesla to revise his contract and release him from a bond to pay the inventor generous royalties. In a gesture that was typical of his true spirit, Tesla is said to have torn up the contract.

Rocky Mountain High

Around the turn of the century Tesla concluded that it would be possible to transmit electrical power without wires. To optimise results, he chose to experiment at high altitude, where the air was thinner and therefore more conductive.

As a result he ended up building a research laboratory in Colorado Springs where he conducted some of his most extraordinary experiments, tests that even to this day are shrouded in mystery.

Tesla theorised that unlimited amounts of power could be transmitted anywhere on Earth, without wires and with virtually no loss of energy. It is not clear exactly how he intended to do this, but right up until the end of his life he maintained it was quite possible and that he only needed sufficient funds to make it a reality.

The funds, however, were not forthcoming, and Tesla was eventually forced to abandon his Colorado experiments in what was to become a recurrent feature in his life: no money or insufficient finance to pursue an idea… but a constant stream of new ideas.

At the beginning of the First World War, Tesla described a means for detecting ships at sea. His idea was to transmit high-frequency radio waves that would reflect off the hulls of vessels and appear on a fluorescent screen. The idea was way ahead of its day, and at the time few quite understood it, but it was a forerunner of what we now call radar.

Tesla was also the first to see a time when flying vehicles could be remotely controlled to land with an explosive charge on an unsuspecting enemy. In effect he was describing what we know today as a cruise missile.

By 1922 Tesla was working as a consulting engineer. He was making just enough money to live on, but often the plans he drew up were rejected as impractical.

Interestingly, around this time Tesla spoke out against the new theories of Albert Einstein. In contrast to the Nobel Laureate, Tesla maintained that energy was not contained in matter, but in the space between the particles of an atom.

Toward the end of his life Tesla became even more eccentric and reclusive. He began visiting parks to rescue pigeons that he then took home to nurse.

In his final years, at the Hotel New Yorker, he had the chef prepare a special mix of seeds for the birds. He also became obsessive about cleanliness, eating only boiled foods.

Nonetheless the ideas continued to flow and in the years prior to the Second World War he announced that he had discovered a new energy source, and a technology that could end war entirely.

The New York Times of 11 July 1934 announced that: “TESLA, AT 78, BARES NEW DEATH BEAM.”

“The Death Beam,” the Times continued, “will send concentrated beams of particles through the free air, of such tremendous energy that they will bring down a fleet of 10,000 enemy warplanes at a distance of 250 miles…”

The weapon, said Tesla, would make war impossible by surrounding every country with an “invisible Chinese Wall.” It was, in effect, what we know today as a charged particle beam accelerator.

Once again though, Tesla was unable to summon sufficient finance to back his proposal and as the prospect of war became more likely so Tesla became ever more desperate.

In despair he finally sent detailed plans for his ‘peace weapon’ to the governments of the US, Britain, France, Canada, Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. But to Tesla’s dismay, none of the Western governments took his proposal seriously, not at the time anyway.

However, in the aftermath of Tesla’s death in 1943, it became apparent that some of these governments had grown more than a little interested.

Tesla’s nephew, Sava Kosanovic went to his uncle’s rooms on the morning of his death. On arrival, according to Kosanovic, the rooms looked as if they had been searched; notebooks and crucial technical papers were missing, and two days later the Office of Alien Property seized all of Tesla’s remaining belongings.

One result of this is H.A.A.R.P.1 Situated in Alaska, exactly where Tesla first proposed it should be sited, H.A.A.R.P. is seen by some observers as a working example of a device first proposed by Tesla in 1915. Long before anyone had heard of H.A.A.R.P., before it had even been built, Tesla was talking to the press about it.

“It is perfectly practicable to transmit electrical energy without wires and produce destructive effects at a distance,” he told the New York Times in an interview published on December 8, 1915.

“I have already constructed a wireless transmitter which makes this possible, and have described it in my technical publications. . . With a transmitter of this kind we are enabled to project electrical energy in any amount to any distance [HAARP’s output is a full gigawatt] and apply it for innumerable purposes, both in war and peace.”

The Kabbalah’s Remarkable Idea

During the question and answer period for the book release of my new book Dispelling Wetiko: Breaking the Curse of Evil, someone asked what was I going to write about next. Without having to blink, I responded “Kabbalah,” which is considered to be one of the most profound spiritual and intellectual movements in all of human history. Soon after the publication of my book I had discovered, much to my surprise, that the Kabbalah had a similarly radical view on many of the things I had written about, particularly the nature and role of evil in the cosmic drama. In my book, I contemplate how the wisdom traditions of alchemy, Gnosticism, shamanism, Buddhism, mystical Christianity and the depth psychology of Jung were pointing at and could help us to deepen our understanding of what the Native Americans call “wetiko” (which, simply put, refers to the spirit of evil), but I hadn’t written about the Kabbalah because I hadn’t realized that it was pointing at wetiko in a particularly unique and creative way.[i] In Dispelling Wetiko, I point out, in as many ways as I can imagine, that encoded in the deepest evil of wetiko, which is the evil that inspires humanity’s inhumanity to itself, is actually a blessing in a very convincing disguise to the contrary, such that if we recognize what it is revealing to us about ourselves, it can help us to wake up. In essence, the Lurianic Kabbalah of Isaac Luria (1534-1572) says the same thing, i.e., that evil, which by definition is diametrically opposed to good, is, paradoxically, at the same time its very source.

Upon studying the Lurianic Kabbalah (henceforth referred to simply as “Kabbalah”), a place of deep recognition stirred within me. In reading its creation myth, it was as if images were being activated within my mind which matched a deep inner experience I had been having for years. According to the Kabbalah, when it first arose within the divine will to create a universe, there was a contraction (known as the “Tzimtzum”), a localized withdrawal and concealment of God so as to prepare a space and “make room” for a finite creation with all of its distinctiveness, multiplicity and limitation to be brought about. At the very moment that God then conceived of the world and poured his[ii] infinite light into the “vessels” that he had prepared for this very event, the vessels were instantaneously filled and shattered by this influx of divine light. This catastrophic event, called “The Breaking of the Vessels” shattered the vessels into shards which fell through primordial space, the metaphysical void, while at the same time severing the previously united (and unconscious) opposites that constitute the underlying unified structure of the universe. Each shard entrapped a portion of divine light, seemingly separating this primordial light from its source.

These shards, known as the “kelipot” (pronounced k’lee-pote), represent malevolent constrictions in being, which, according to the Kabbalah, became the source of evil and personal suffering. The negation and mirror image of divine holiness and purity, the kelipot were like envelopes that concealed holiness just as a peel hides the fruit within. The kelipot were likened to husks or shells that imprisoned within themselves the divine light of God, which, because of its estrangement from its source, becomes malevolent. The kelipot altered the appearance of the light, but didn’t, however, change the essence of the light itself. The kelipot are themselves infertile and lifeless, with no independent existence, vacuous apparitions sustained in their seeming vitality and existence only by the very divine light that they have captured. According to the Kabbalah, evil has no life of its own, as the very source of evil is both intrinsically connected to, and yet, parasitic in relation to the divine light. From the perspective of the Kabbalah, though parasitically dependent upon the light of God, evil seeks to destroy holiness, which is to ultimately destroy everything, including itself. By severing the primary reality from its source of being, the kelipot had assumed an illusory reality, becoming a lethal mirage that, though ultimately not truly existing, could potentially destroy our species. The kelipot were also thought to imprison and bind aspects of human souls as well, feeding parasitically on the divine light within them, which is to say that the Kabbalah’s view of cosmic events was also a description of the dynamics within humanity’s soul. The entrapped divine sparks of light symbolize each individual’s essential but forgotten reality. Significantly, just like the spirit of wetiko, the kelipot contained within themselves the source and very energy for their own undoing, and ultimately, the potential for their own redemption.

Like autonomous complexes within the psyche, the kelipot appeared to obtain a measure of independent existence, as if they had become separated from, and other than, the light of God itself (something which is inherently impossible). For the Kabbalists, evil emerges out of separating things that should (and necessarily do) remain united, a “splitting” of a deeper unity. It was as if the universe itself had been subject to a cosmic “dissociative reaction,” in which the underlying unity of the universe had been fragmented into a multiplicity of selves. Both the kelipot and affect-laden complexes become relatively inaccessible to consciousness, shrouded in the darkness of the unconscious. Becoming “exiled” from their source, these split-off complexes become the source of much suffering in the personal realm, just as the kelipot become the source of evil on the cosmic scale. Just as the divine light estranged from its source becomes evil, when our psychic energy becomes encapsulated through repression and severed from the wholeness of the psyche from which it arose, we develop all sorts of negative, neurotic and self-destructive symptoms.

It was as if in the process of creation, God (or in psychological terms, “the Self”), had become alienated from itself, as if “Being” was in exile from itself. And yet, according to the Kabbalah, this cosmic cataclysm was no accident, but was inherent in the overall scheme of things, built into the very design of the universe, as if God had to become estranged from himself in order to become more fully himself. To quote Jung, “And where would God’s wholeness be if he could not be the ‘wholly other’?”[iii] In becoming concealed and eclipsed from himself, the infinite God creates the illusion of finitude, limitation and separation.

As if clothing himself in a garment that is our world, God creates a very convincing illusion that is akin to a dream. According to the Kabbalah, our world is itself like a dream in the infinite mind of God. Dreams themselves are tailor-made so as to help us understand Kabbalistic thought in general. As long as we are under the spell of the dream that we are having, all of the people and objects within the dream seem separate and objectively existing. It is only upon awakening to the dreamlike nature of our situation that we recognize that who we thought we were is nothing other than a model of ourselves being dreamed by something deeper, and that the dream in which we find ourselves is a display of, and not separate from, who we have discovered ourselves to be. Similarly, it is only when God is differentiated into, and includes within himself, a seemingly boundless expanse of apparently finite entities, which are then understood as all participating in his unified essence, that God completes himself as the Infinite All and his full infinity is achieved. This is to say that the deepest unity isn’t opposed to multiplicity, but, rather, requires and embraces it.

In the same way that God has to become estranged from himself in order to become who he is, according to the Kabbalah, it was only after the vessels break that humanity’s potential to become fully itself is set in motion. It is as if some form of destruction, deconstruction, or disintegration is a prerequisite for individuation and is necessary for the birth of the Self. Seen symbolically, the Breaking of the Vessels is an expression of the inevitable brokenness that everyone experiences at one point or another within, and even throughout, the course of a lifetime. It is when things seem most broken and shattered─when we hit bottom─that the deeper process of healing and transformation can begin. This archetypal idea is also expressed in the figure of the wounded healer, who accesses the ability to heal by going through and adding consciousness to the process of being wounded. Seen psychologically, the archetype of the wounded healer expresses the idea that the ego, if it’s to undergo transformation, must be wounded or broken in some way in order to open up to its connection to the healing energies of the unconscious. This idea of being broken, of experiencing failure, feeling psychologically and spiritually impotent, and going through a symbolic “death” experience is also related to the archetypal “Dark Night of the Soul,” an inner, psychospiritual experience which involves descending into the darkness─similar to the archetypal descent of the shaman into the underworld─which is the very process through which the light is discovered. This is similar to the personal process of spiritual emergence, which almost always looks like a nervous “breakdown.” The person who is spiritually awakening is typically experienced to be “falling into pieces,” as their psyche “melts down” and disintegrates, all potentially leading towards a higher form of integration more in alignment with their deeper, intrinsic wholeness. This process of falling apart is an iteration of the same fractal, a recapitulation on the microcosmic scale of an individual psyche, that the Kabbalah describes as initiating the process of divine evolution on a cosmic scale. The shattering of the vessels can also symbolize moments when life so shakes us up that we snap out of our fixed patterns of thought, rigid beliefs and assumed ideas about both the world and ourselves, such that a divine spark of creativity can come through us.

One of the striking features in the Kabbalah’s account of the origin of evil is that, unlike the Biblical myth, whose notion of the Fall of Humanity is attributed to a human act as described in the Garden of Eden story, the Kabbalah sees the origin of evil as an inescapable feature of the very process of cosmogenesis itself. Instead of seeing evil as existing outside of God, the Kabbalists saw evil as an essential component of the deity, woven into the very fabric of creation. From the point of view of the Kabbalah, evil issues forth from God himself, originating in the very heart of divinity, and is a logically necessary consequence of the very act of creation itself. In the earliest Kabbalistic writings it says “The Holy One praised be He has a trait which is called Evil.”[iv] From the Kabbalah’s point of view, to deny evil its rightful place in the cosmos is to do away with the Good as well. To quote Sanford L. Drob, author of Symbols of the Kabbalah: Philosophical and Psychological Perspectives, “Evil is to creation, and the individual finite existence that is creation’s very essence, as the outside of a container is to the space it contains.”[v] To one-sidedly strive after good and unilaterally reject and exclude evil would be like trying to grasp the container without taking hold of the boundary which defines it.

This “crisis in creation” was built into all things, both human and divine, into the molecular and subatomic structure of the cosmos itself. The dialectical tensions of the cosmos are mirrored in the psyche of each individual. This primordial rupture, which was a form of trauma on a cosmic scale, became the in-forming force behind human history itself, conditioning the experience of each individual, as well as our species as a whole. It is as if our entire species is suffering from a form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Seen as a whole person, it is as if the wholeness of the universe had split into cosmic multiple sub-personalities who are dissociated from and seemingly separate from each other, desperately in need of recognizing their connection so as to come together and reintegrate.

When Freud was first introduced to the Kabbalah, he was so beside himself in excitement that he exclaimed “This is gold.” When Jung, who to my mind has the deepest insight into the nature of evil of anyone I have yet encountered, had his eyes opened to the profundity of the Kabbalah, he realized that his entire psychology had been anticipated by certain of their adepts. In an interview on his eightieth birthday in 1955, Jung declared, “the Hasidic Rabbi Baer from Mesiritz anticipated my entire psychology in the eighteenth century.”[vi] I can relate to how Jung must have felt, as the more I studied the Kabbalah’s cosmology, the more my mind was being blown, feeling as if I had found an alternative─and complementary─rendering of what I had written about in Dispelling Wetiko. The Kabbalah provides an ingenious model of how we have become entranced by the spell-binding powers of our own mind. It was as if the Kabbalist’s had been tracking wetiko for centuries, had created their own mythology and symbol system which “captured” it, and in so doing had presciently realized how to “break the curse of evil.”

Jung writes, “In a tract of the Lurianic Kabbalah, the remarkable idea is developed that man is destined to become God’s helper in the attempt to restore the vessels which were broken when God thought to create a world.”[vii] Commenting on this novel idea, Jung writes, “Here the thought emerges for the first time that man must help God to repair the damage wrought by creation. For the first time man’s cosmic responsibility is acknowledged.”[viii] Jung was appreciating the Kabbalist’s (r)evolutionary insight that humanity was playing the crucial role of co-partnering with God so as to complete the creative act of his Incarnation. The radical and taboo thought was, “for the first time,” emerging into a monotheistic worldview that, to put it into religious language, humanity didn’t just depend upon God, but that God, as if to complete the circle, depended upon humanity as well. From the Kabbalah’s point of view, God did not just create humanity, but in a joint venture, humanity is reciprocally helping to create God as well – talk about a “cosmic responsibility!”

According to the Kabbalah, it was as if divine sparks, psychic/spiritual treasures were encoded within us and hidden throughout the physical universe. It is a Sethian[ix] notion, as expressed by Hippolytus, that the darkness “held the brightness and the spark of light in thrall,”[x] the wording of which suggests that the darkness seems to have the light under a magical “spell.” This is quite remarkable, considering that, as mentioned earlier, the darkness parasitically requires the energy of the light in order to maintain its seeming existence and appear real. Ultimately speaking, the light has used its own creative energy to constrain its infinite radiance, as if the light has cast a spell upon itself. Seen as a reflection of a process happening within each of us, this expresses how something so incredibly powerful (i.e., ourselves as the radiant plenum – the boundless luminosity which is the very fabric of our being) can fall under the spell of a nonexistent phantom appearance that arises from the immense creativity of our own mind such that it entrances the light within us into believing that this imaginary, illusory phantom of darkness is more powerful than the light that we are. These apparition-like “darker forces,” the result of a timeless, acausal, nonlinear and insidious feedback loop within our own mind, only have power over us to the extent that their illusory nature is not seen through. The powers of darkness cannot take our intrinsic power from us, rather, they can only take on seeming reality by tricking us into giving our power away to them.

The idea of sparks of divine light becoming trapped in the dark denseness of matter, and this state of affairs being linked with human salvation is a quintessentially Gnostic idea. The Gnostic Gospel of Phillip says, “I am scattered in all things, and from wherever thou wilt thou canst gather me, but in gathering me thou gatherest together thyself.” It was as if sparks of the divine, of our very Self were dispersed throughout the manifest world, waiting to be discovered and liberated.

To the Kabbalists, it was humanity’s divinely appointed task to find, extract and free this light that is hidden in the darkness of the material realm (this is called “The Raising of the Sparks”), thereby helping this light return to its divine source. It is the mission of each one of us to raise the sparks hidden within those kelipot that reside within our soul or that come our way over the course of a lifetime so as to fulfill our part in the healing of the world. According to the Kabbalah, humanity plays a key role in the repair and restoration of the world, called “Tikkun ha-Olam” (henceforth “Tikkun” for short). Tikkun is a project in which humanity, the world, and God himself becomes more fully themselves, as if humanity plays a vitally important role in the completion and actualization of the universe, and if we can talk in such human terms, of God himself. The profound viewpoint of Tikkun reveals that the purpose and significance of evil in God’s plan is to provide a context for humanity’s redemption, which is to say that the vision provided by Tikkun puts evil, humanity, and God himself in their proper places within the cosmos.

This cosmic process is mirrored in humanity through the process of individuation, of becoming an indivisible unity or “whole,” which entails a gathering, recollecting and remembering of all of the split-off, projected parts of the psyche. Etymologically, the root of the word individuation means “un-divided,” as if the process of individuation is the antidote to the “diabolical” (whose etymology means “that which separates and divides”), disintegrating effects of evil. To quote Jung, “Individuation does not shut one out from the world, but gathers the world to oneself.”[xi] Elsewhere Jung writes, “Everything living dreams of individuation, for everything strives towards its own wholeness.”[xii] As Jung suggests, just as each one of us dreams of individuation as we strive towards the wholeness of our nature, can’t we say the same of the universe itself: that it too dreams of individuation, of gathering its nature to itself, and re-membering all of its split-off parts? Are we all just playing roles in a cosmic process of individuation─a universal awakening─that is mysteriously being revealed and catalyzed through our darker half?

It is an age-old, archetypal idea, expressed in both alchemy and Gnosticism, that light is to be found hidden within the darkness, which suggests that evil is connected to the process of redemption and individuation. Jung comments, “that not only darkness is known through light, but that, conversely, light is known through darkness.”[xiii] According to the Kabbalah, the extraction of the light requires an acknowledgement of, and sojourn into the realm of darkness, which psychologically speaking, can be thought of as making a descent into the underworld of the unconscious and coming to terms with our base desires, what in Kabbalah is referred to as a “descent on behalf of the ascent.” Going inward is going upward in consciousness, dimensionally speaking. This descent always involves a coming to terms with the “shadow” of ourselves (which has both a personal, as well as transpersonal/archetypal component). Our totality must include a dark side if we are to be whole. Jung writes, “Where there is no shadow, there is no light.”[xiv] By entering the dark realm of the unconscious, we are offered the possibility of refining ourselves as if in a crucible, as if the shadow-world of the unconscious is a divine furnace of purification. If we fail to take into account the shadow aspect of ourselves, we are unwittingly feeding it, increasing its power over us; if we don’t acknowledge and see our darkness, we deliver ourselves into its hands.

The kabbalistic idea of finding the light hidden in the darkness is also a basic psychoanalytic idea, having to do with making the unconscious conscious, as well as connecting split-off complexes to the wholeness of the Self. If we don’t acknowledge and pay our dues to the darkness, like the return of the Freudian repressed, it will take its due on its own terms, with a vengeance. In alchemy, the prima materia, which is considered the primal chaos that includes within itself elements of negativity and evil (and is symbolized by the element “lead”), is necessary and indeed indispensible for the making of the “gold” (which is the awakened consciousness) and the completion of the opus.

The entire process of Tikkun proceeds out of what the Kabbalah refers to as “The Other Side” (called “The Sitra Achra,” a nether realm of evil inhabited by and composed of the kelipot), which is to say that, kabbalistically speaking, there is no liberated light except that which issues forth out of the evil realm. The Zohar, the key Kabbalistic text, makes this very point when it makes the remarkable statement, “There is no light except that which issues from darkness…and no true good except it proceed from evil.”[xv] According to the Kabbalah, evil is the very condition of good’s realization. Evil, at cross purposes to the good at its core, is at the same time, paradoxically, its very foundation. It is only by attending to the darkness within ourselves and making the darkness conscious, however, that we become secure in the attainment of the good and begin to wake up. Jung writes, “He who comprehends the darkness in himself, to him the light is near.”[xvi]

From the Kabbalistic point of view, evil brings into the world the possibility of choosing between sin and virtue, which is to say that evil is the very origin of the possibility of the highest good. Freedom of choice is a necessary postulate for responsibility, morality and the creation of values. Evil becomes the condition for free choice, and hence, the condition for the full realization of good. As if the revelation of everything is through its opposite, an idea is only complete when it reveals its opposite to be inextricably linked to its very significance, e.g., darkness is only known through light, just as light is only known through darkness. According to the Kabbalah, the world and the soul of humanity are partly immersed in the “Other Side,” which is to say that the evil impulse can’t be banished, but needs to be harnessed for the good. To quote Jung, “You can’t reject evil because evil is the bringer of light.”

Evil, according to the Kabbalah, reciprocally co-arises with the possibility of humanity’s freedom, as if God could not create true freedom for humanity without providing a choice for evil. Freedom and evil are thus two aspects of the same process. It is as if the Breaking of the Vessels, the seeming exile of divine light, and the production of evil which resulted made possible the process by which humanity can attain its autonomy and potential freedom. Only in an evil and tragic world can compassion and kindness be most fully realized. Jung succinctly expresses this realization when he writes, “The evil one is holy.”[xvii] This is not to justify, sanction or condone evil, but rather, to contextualize it. The chaos and negativity that resulted from the Breaking of the Vessels was, for the Kabbalists, the inevitable result of, and the price to be paid for, the infinite taking on finite form, of divine unity giving itself over to distinction, individuality and freedom. From the Kabbalistic point of view, evil is created by and for freedom, and it is only through freedom by which it can be overcome.

If the kelipot are solely the source of evil, how do we explain that is it is through their evil that we potentially actualize our freedom? Are the kelipot expressions of a higher intelligence, part of the divine plan to bring about a higher form of good that couldn’t be achieved without their existence?

As if intimately related, there is a deep interconnection between the forces of light and dark, as if at a certain point the dark and the light become indistinguishable from one another, a “coincidentia oppositorum” (co-incidence of opposites). The idea of the interpenetration, interdependence and the coming together of the opposites is at the root of every wisdom tradition on our planet, and is an idea that underlies, informs and animates the Kabbalah’s entire cosmology. In addition, the principle of coincidentia oppositorum can be considered to be the cornerstone of Jung’s entire psychology. In Jung’s personal journal, the recently published Red Book, whose reflections are the basis of his life’s work, he refers to the coincidentia oppositorum as producing the “supreme meaning.”[xviii] The part of us that is having the realization of, in Jung’s words, the “mysterium coniunctionis” (the mystery of the conjunction – the co-joining of things typically conceived of as being opposites) is the Self, the wholeness of our personality. The Self─who we are─is simultaneously the sponsor and result of this realization.

Through its choices, humanity can realize and actualize the values that are only abstractions and ideas in the mind of God. Humanity’s actions can instantiate, embody and make fully real the higher, spiritual values of our universe, helping God to see, and experience the totality of himself in the process. It is as if humanity is the vessel which God has created in order to complete and incarnate himself. It is the Kabbalah’s perspective that the unity and perfection that is provided with humanity’s help is of a higher-order than the unity that existed before the Breaking of the Vessels and prior to creation itself. This is similar to how, in the alchemical operation of “solve et coagula” (dissolve and synthesize), an original unity is separated into its opposing parts, and then reunited in a process that brings about a superior wholeness. From the Kabbalah’s point of view, it is as if God creates the world in order to fully realize himself in it. In a case where the microcosm mirrors the macrocosm, this is similar to how the unconscious manifests itself in a reflective ego in order to complete and know itself as a conscious “Self.”

It is only a broken and disordered state of affairs─such as we have in the world today─that provides the optimal environment within which humanity can best exercise the greatest spiritual, moral, aesthetic and intellectual virtues that truly make us a reflection of God. The discordant, unassimilated and antagonistic effects of both our personal complexes and the kelipot of the Kabbalah all serve to call forth our highest potentialities, similar to how a road test for a car involves being put under the most difficult conditions to push it to its edge and elicit the limits of its performance capabilities. This world is truly a perfect realm for the “road-testing” of our souls. Humanity’s highest virtues are called upon when confronted by evil.

Jung writes, “The self is made manifest in the opposites and in the conflict between them; it is a coincidentia oppositorum. Hence the way to the self begins with conflict.”[xix] Conflicting energies exist relative to, by virtue of, and at the expense of each other. Reciprocally co-arising, they belong together precisely insofar as they oppose each other; their antagonism is the very source of their essential oneness. The conflict that arises from the Breaking of the Vessels and the creation of evil is inherent to, and necessary for, the cultivation of the human spirit. Jung writes, “The stirring up of conflict is a Luciferian virtue in the true sense of the word. Conflict engenders fire, the fire of affects and emotions, and like every other fire, it has two aspects, that of combustion and that of creating light.”[xx] In other words, the conflict and friction that is the result of the Breaking of the Vessels can potentially create separation, hurt and misunderstanding─producing more trauma─or it can create light, the light of consciousness itself. From this meta-perspective, the shattering of the vessels allows, potentially, for more light to be revealed. To quote Jung, “But that which brings division ultimately creates union.”[xxi]

Though the Kabbalist’s envision the Breaking of the Vessels (and the kelipot entrapping the divine light and bringing evil into the world) as a cosmic event that happened back in the dawning of time─at the very moment of the creation of our universe─this process is also atemporal, in that it happens outside of time, which is to say that it is happening right now. The Breaking of the Vessels is a symbolic articulation of a process that is active in us right now and is informing our human condition in each and every moment.

Like the prototypical Adam, whose situation in the Garden is a metaphor for the archetypal human dilemma, as well as for all subsequent human decisions, each one of us stands at a fork in the road─a place of great opportunity─between the paths of Tikkun (and life) on the one hand, and feeding the kelipot and evil (and death) on the other.[xxii] Adam’s sin was catastrophic precisely because it was an act of free choice, and for this reason it strengthened the kelipot and the power of the “Other Side.” Similarly, whenever any of us is “unconsciously” taken over by evil in the form of compulsive, addictive behaviors (as compared to “acting out” our compulsions as the medium through which we become conscious of them), we are unwittingly investing in the grip of the kelipot over our soul. When we are able to choose differently, however, and redirect our psychic energy so as to “re-turn” (a word which, etymologically, has to do with the word “repentance”) to the true spiritual home within ourselves, the energy that was bound up in the compulsive re-creation of our habitual patterns becomes freed up and available for the expression of love and creativity (which, in religious language, would be to serve God). To “turn away” from the “self and/or other” destructive evil impulse within ourselves and to “turn towards” and reorient ourselves towards the good is to genuinely “repent.” Repentance is the highest expression of humanity’s capacity to choose freely – it is a manifestation of the divine in humanity. Repentance is a living manifestation of the power within us to extricate ourselves from the binding power of the kelipot, from the chains of endless causality that otherwise compel us to follow a path of “no return.” As Jung points out, “The sin to be repented, of course, is unconsciousness.”[xxiii] From the Kabbalah’s point of view, a “sinner” who “repents” is on a higher level than the saint who has never sinned.

The moment of “metanoia,” of a shift in our attitude, a change in our mind and a softening of our heart, is a moment in which we are participating in the birth of consciousness. Individuation is Incarnation. In this moment of awareness, the energy that was bound up in the recreation of the kelipot and their seeming power over us is instantaneously liberated. The holy sparks imprisoned by the kelipot, like iron filings drawn to a magnet, fly back to their divine source, where they can then assist and inspire the process of a universe-wide Tikkun even further. The kelipot, which had been parasitic on this sacred light are then deprived of their vitality and vanish as though they had never existed, as if a dream that had seemed real vaporizes into the light of awakening consciousness, getting reabsorbed into the very divine light from which it arose.

We, by our very choices, are actively participating in creating (in my language, “dreaming up”) the archetypal process of either feeding the kelipot and their resultant evil or denying them their food in each and every moment by feeding awareness instead. Once we cultivate the compassion that is at the root of this process, the evil impulse─“yetzer ha-ra”─within us is not, like in the psychological process of sublimation, merely redirected while the underlying drive is left essentially unchanged; rather, the redirection implied by this process elevates and alchemically transforms the evil urge into “yetzer ha-tov,” the impulse for good. It is the creative tension between these two primordial urges within us that supplies the energy for humanity to potentially connect with our true power and exercise the divine gift of genuine freedom. For the Kabbalists, the good that we are capable of in our personal life issues forth, and is functionally related to the evil inclination within us; which is to say that the energy that is animating the evil impulse can potentially be channeled to inspire the good. The greater our evil impulse, the greater our potential for good.

At this point, I am left practically speechless, in awe and appreciation for the divine creative imagination as it imagines itself through the Kabbalistic cosmology. My life truly feels enriched after finding the gold of the Kabbalah. The Kabbalist’s vision of the cosmos and the Native American idea of wetiko mutually illuminate and shed light on each other, expanding our vision of who we are in the process. As I become more familiar with the Kabbalah, I am realizing that I have been a “closet Kabbalist,” and that my inner Kabbalistic nature was a secret, hidden and unknown even to myself.

For the Kabbalah, the act of creation itself is an introduction, a mere opening act, a preparation for the process of Tikkun. The Kabbalistic myth of Tikkun, at least in my imagination, is a satisfying myth, as the ‘mystic’ Tikkun is the true coming of the Messiah, which psychologically speaking, is the birth of the Self through humanity. Kabbalistically speaking, the savior does not come to unite humanity with God, but to unite humanity with itself; individuation means becoming who one is. The process of Tikkun involves seeing through and transcending the illusion of the imaginary “separate” self and recognizing our true self, which is a “self” that is interconnected and interdependent with all beings. This is an insight that is not limited to the merely inner domain within our own minds, but requires us to embody its realization and carry its compassion into the world at large. Tikkun doesn’t have to do with leaving the world behind and entering our own personal nirvana, nor does it have to do with transcending the world. The vehicle for Tikkun’s realization is our world.

When we truly become a living representative for the process of Tikkun, we realize the synchronistic dialectic between the outer world and the inner landscape of our mind, which is to say that the outer and inner worlds, just like a dream, are recognized to be reflections of each other. This is to recognize that the outer world is the medium through which our inner realization is made manifest and given form, which is to say that one very powerful way to “work on ourselves” and deepen our inner realization is to engage with, fully participate in and be of service in and to the world. The psychological redemption that is at the heart of Tikkun involves a simultaneous turning inward and outward. As practitioners of Tikkun we seek to discover the core of divinity that resides within ourselves as well as within the world at large. From the perspective of the Kabbalah, it is incumbent upon humanity to discover, recognize, bring out and sanctify the sacramental value of the material world. The world becomes alchemically transfigured in the moment of recognizing that it is, and always has been a pure spiritual realm. We ourselves become transformed in the process. The process of Tikkun will only be complete when the last spark has been raised and the universe, suffused with the inviolable primordial radiance of the divine, reveals itself to be the dream that it is. As we collectively connect with each other in the profound process of Tikkun, we can refresh and restore the world to a state of harmony undreamed of previously.

Consciousness or Selfishness. Your Choice.

Selfishness concerns itself with one’s own welfare regardless of others and with giving less than the best to others. It may take the form of self-aggrandisement, self-glory, self-centerdness, self-doubt and many other “self” words, including self-control. Selfishness includes smugness, complacency, egotism, narcissism, conceit, perfectionism, arrogance, manipulation, denial, avoidance, fears, false pride, pretension, hypocrisy, pomposity, mistrust, condescension, indifference, presumptuousness, expectations, martyrdom, addictions, ambitions, jealousy, possessiveness, weakness, greed and control of others. All selfishness is a type of so-called sin. All evil is a type of selfishness. All selfishness is sinful and evil.

Unselfishness, besides being the opposite of the above, means giving generously to others as well as oneself for all the right reasons. It is being good when no one is watching, caring longer than anybody, loving anyway. Unselfishness is doing what you know to do even when you don’t feel like it. It’s not giving in to the impulses of the moment. It’s not making excuses for your own or anybody else’s failure. It is taking responsibility for what you are responsible for, and absolutely nothing else. It’s letting everybody do their own growing in spite of caring that they hurt. It is not letting them hurt alone. It’s intimate honesty and honestly intimate.

It’s letting others know what you want from them, and it’s lovingly letting go if they can’t give it.

Everything, and we really mean absolutely everything, is vibration. All vibrations seek their own level. Like begets like. Those who love unselfishly will ultimately, between earthly lives, experience the heavenly vibration of that attitude, while those who are negative and selfish will ultimately and rightly so experience the hellish vibration brought on by that. It doesn’t matter whether you believe it or not.

What we are trying to tell you is that there is nothing you can’t do when you are fully conscious. There is nothing you don’t know. And there is no place you consciousness can’t be. This of course is very scary for highly intelligent people who like to control others. Unselfish love is that which a person, who knows that he, is one with the universal spirit, does. Unselfish love is the way of the flow of the universe, the way of oneness. Unselfishness is the way of being in harmony with the universe. And is an instrument for doing the will of the Universal Consciousness. Unselfish love is both the end result of breaking our illusion of separateness, and a way of attaining oneness.

In retrospect, in times of suffering people are more aware of the constant, painful gnawing that exists from lack of inner peace. It reminds them, at least internally or subconsciously, about the great fact that suffering is caused by remaining separate and selfish, and this will never end unless we return to oneness with the Universal Spirit. We can never really be happy as selfish separate selves, never. We may have temporary high points, but that is it.

On the other hand, the pain of crucifying our selfishness is just temporary. And when we are done doing that, we have inner peace, which is the only true happiness, and the only happiness that never leaves us. Only those who have learned that the greater pain lies in separation from the oneness will choose the spiritual path. Are you willing to surrender?

If a person has attained Universal Consciousness they, by the very nature of that, cannot be simultaneously selfish. And if a person is still selfish, they cannot be one with the Universal Spirit, nor have Universal Consciousness. Many people’s spirituality excludes this simple fact, and many use sophisticated spiritual rationalization to actually maintain their selfish selves. Travelling on the spiritual path is made easier by humility, compassion and unselfish love. The greater our degree of humility and compassion, the easier, and shorter, our path back will be. Spiritual growth can be experienced as agonizing torture that we must endure, or as an enlightening, learning experience that we desire and relish. It all depends on our attitude.

True spiritual growth moves us away from the world of separateness and selfishness, towards Universal Consciousness and At-one-ment. Such a shift in consciousness can only result in caring for all, because we realise that all beings are us, all are in the Universal Spirit. Unselfish love radiates to all without exception, so powerfully that it transcends your separate self and is the Creator’s love flowing through you to others. You become the vessel channelling the universal spirit (while also being the universal spirit). It gives to all who would receive. Unless you approach the Universal Consciousness within yourself very soon, you will be left behind.

The opportunities for incarnating will be greatly diminished in the very near future, if at all. There simply won’t be enough bodies to go around, to incarnate into. As was said…”My spirit shall not dwell in man forever”, so stop wasting your time and, more importantly, don’t let other people waste your time. If you don’t try to get rid of your selfishness, and regain your Universal Consciousness, you are wasting your time and life. (That is what you are supposed to be doing here in this world) Ascension is in consciousness, going from a lower to a higher vibration. There are no physical rapture, that is an error. Flesh is flesh, and Spirit is Spirit. You don’t go to heaven; you grow to heaven by being kind to other people.

If man really knew better, he would do better. So be kind to others and know that ignorance and selfishness are the real evils. We are our brother’s keeper. If those intelligent people who are in a position to give of their means, talents, wealth, education and positions do not take this truth into consideration, then there must be that levelling which is to come. To our intelligent and intellectual friends, know that every other individual has as much right on Earth as we ourselves have, even though in some respect they may not be as far advanced in their learning.

Most people have lost so much awareness that they are not even aware of the fact that they are not aware that they are part of the great oneness. At present, as well as in the very near future, you will see tyranny, oppression, control and enslavement on a scale that is unprecedented. A helping hand will be offered to a collapsing world, a crime-ridden world. This hand will welcome you and want to take care of you, but watch out, for if you grasp it, it will make you a servant for the dark side. Think not that evil does not exist. True evil disguises itself and points fingers at innocents. Evil people are arrogant, feel mentally and intellectually superior, are greedy, speak lies and love power over others. They are masters of deception and secrecy, and are totally selfish. Evil seeks, with all its might, to destroy all those who would shine light into this world of darkness. That is also why I am using a previous name in penning this short script. From a higher perspective, the greatest evil on earth and in the hearts and minds of individuals is contention, fault-finding, lovers of self, selfishness and lovers of praise, because these forces separate consciousness. You create your own reality by attracting what you think about. The greatest good in the world is love, patience, kindness, forgiveness and understanding, because these forces unite. Evil is man’s misuse of the gift of free will. The creator allows this because free will is the only way for any soul to reach its original reason for existence: to know itself, to be itself, yet choosing to be one with, and in harmony with the whole, with the creator and the creation. If free will is taken away, then the soul no longer has the potential to become an eternal loving companion and co-creator. This is why souls who misuse their free will are allowed and given more time and lives to discover their true purpose, even if they do much harm along the way. Man will eventually learn that the Creators creation is better than his own feeble attempts. That Creators ways are better than his own funny ways, and that Creators Universal Consciousness is better than the little physical consciousness/intellect that men have in their primate like bodies. As can be seen at this time (2013), mankind is fast separating into two groups, the wheat and the chaff, the good and the bad, the loving and the hateful, the unselfish and the selfish, and most people gravitate towards one or the other. Where are you going? Like-minded people are now separating more and more from the opposite group to be among those of similar persuasion. If you don’t actively join in the cause of light, you are aiding the darkness, whether deliberately or not, whether you think so or not. Some people are becoming more and more kind and loving toward each other. Some are becoming more and more selfish, greedy and power hungry, showing very little love toward others. What do you think you are becoming? Your choices determine what you become, not your religion, not your religious belief or faith or intellectual reasoning; only your free will. Please use your free will with great humility and compassion to uplift your brothers and sisters, and to the glory of The Creator. Do not confuse this with what is mostly understood as religious dogma or theology, this is not.

Surrender to the universal one. Get back to Universal Consciousness any way you can, as quickly as you can. Time and times and half-time is at an end. At present we only live with a special and short-term dispensation. Selfishness is what must be crucified. Selfishness is what must die, and soon. Unless that is dead, you cannot be born again with Universal Consciousness.

All those who do not work for the light (toward universal consciousness) are, to varying degrees, pawns of darkness. You can meditate, you can pray, you can worship, you can do yoga, and you can go to church or the gym and look at the primate like ape in the mirror all day long. You can snort coke or smoke weeds or whatever. It is all a waste of time, it doesn’t help you become enlightened.  You should be kind, loving, caring and a harmless person. Just start by being really nice, kind and loving all the time to everybody. All human nature has one thing in common; they only operate at full potential when their concerns are directed away from self-preoccupation and towards the assistance of their less fortunate brothers.

DNA Results For The ‘Nephilim’ Skulls In Peru Are In And The Results Are Absolutely Shocking

How can we explain elongated skulls that are thousands of years old that contain genetic material “unknown in any human, primate or animal known so far”?  For months, many of us have been eagerly awaiting the results of the first DNA tests to ever be performed on the famous Paracas skulls.  The results for one of the skulls are now in, and the scientist that did the testing is declaring that this skull represents a “new human-like creature” unlike anything that has ever been discovered before.  So are these actually Nephilim skulls?  Do they come from a time when the world more closely resembled “the Lord of the Rings” than most people living today would ever dare to imagine?  There are those who believe that extremely bizarre hybrid races once roamed the planet.  With each passing year, the scientific evidence continues to pile up on the side of those that are convinced that the Nephilim actually lived among us.  As the knowledge of this evidence becomes more widespread, what is that going to do to the commonly accepted version of history that all of us have been taught?

Elongated Skull Peru - Red Hair

If you are not familiar with the Paracas skulls, the following is a pretty good summary from a recent article by April Holloway
Paracas is a desert peninsula located within the Pisco Province in the Inca Region, on the south coast of Peru.  It is here were Peruvian archaeologist, Julio Tello, made an amazing discovery in 1928 – a massive and elaborate graveyard containing tombs filled with the remains of individuals with the largest elongated skulls found anywhere in the world. These have come to be known as the ‘Paracas skulls’. In total, Tello found more than 300 of these elongated skulls, which are believed to date back around 3,000 years. A DNA analysis has now been conducted on one of the skulls and expert Brien Foerster has released preliminary information regarding these enigmatic skulls.
As Holloway noted, it is researcher Brien Foerster that has been leading the charge in reviving interest in these elongated skulls.  Now that the DNA results are in, interest in these skulls is almost certainly going to skyrocket.  The following quote from the geneticist that conducted the DNA analysis comes from Brien Foerster’s Facebook page.  Please keep in mind that this geneticist was not told the history of these skulls in advance.  So he was able to examine them without any preconceived notions.  What he found was absolutely shocking…
Whatever the sample labeled 3A has came from – it had mtDNA with mutations unknown in any human, primate or animal known so far. The data is very sketchy though and a LOT of sequencing still needs to be done to recover the complete mtDNA sequence. But a few fragments I was able to sequence from this sample 3A indicate that if these mutations will hold we are dealing with a new human-like creature, very distant from Homo sapiens, Neanderthals and Denisovans.
As I have written about previously, forensic analysis of these skulls show that they were not deformed by “cradle-boarding”.  There are many examples of skulls that have been “cradle-boarded” down in South America, but the skulls that Foerster has been investigating are much different from those skulls.  The following is more from April Holloway about these skulls…
The cranial volume is up to 25 percent larger and 60 percent heavier than conventional human skulls, meaning they could not have been intentionally deformed through head binding/flattening. They also contain only one parietal plate, rather than two. The fact that the skulls’ features arenot the result of cranial deformation means that the cause of the elongation is a mystery, and has been for decades.
In fact, in a previous article I discussed how a sample of red hair from one of these skulls was sent to a lab to be analyzed.  The tests on that sample of hair also showed that these skulls are not human.
Or at least they are not fully human.
So can we conclusively say that these are Nephilim skulls?
Of course many researchers are extremely excited about these findings, but they are warning everyone to stay cautious.  For example, consider what L.A. Marzulli is saying about these skulls…
Our Geneticist has had his mind blown as the email indicates, but we must be cautious with our conclusions until all the evidence can be examined.
With that in mind, take a good look at the two skulls in the picture above.  I took this photo when I returned to the Chongos Necropolis a few weeks ago.  The skull on the left shows only one parietal plate and a complete absence of a parietal suture.   Is this a genetic trait that is only found in the Paracas skulls?  If so, what does it signify?
Chongos is one of the most enigmatic places I have ever found myself in.  On this visit to the area we were accompanied by the mayor and an armed escort!   Chongos is where the sample for the DNA testing and the subsequent results I posted above, has come from.
Are these really Nephilim skulls?  In my opinion, the evidence is beginning to stack up in that direction, but we must be cautious and patient for all the evidence to come in.

So who were all of these extremely bizarre human-like creatures that were roaming around on our planet just a few thousand years ago?

We can allow institutions to control information or we can open up and share information for all.  Information is restricted from individuals and held by institutions so as to steer our thinking.  Institutions seek to control information so as to control the direction of the population.  The reason we all think the way we do is because of what we know and what we believe we know.  For instance if the majority of individuals knew the detriment of war and nuclear experimentation no one would allow mad scientists and evildoers to perpetuate such ruinous turmoil.  If the majority knew about the total environmental destruction that is taking place we would act to make a change.  And yet information on relevant situations that directly affect us all is restricted so that we are steered to think a certain way or not think at all about certain things.  Access to relevant information is being restricted by institutions.

Alternatively institutions are compiling mostly irrelevant information on individuals.  As the government and corporate oligarchical collectives of the world restrict information on their activities and the world’s actualities they are compiling information on individual activities.  This information is basically useless and arbitrary information or would be, if it weren’t for the impetus to control everyone and everyone’s thinking.  Relevant information should be open to all and the personal/irrelevant information should be irrelevant to institutions.

We all make our decisions on information.  All people of the world have an unwritten right to information.  Controlling oligarchical institutions should not have access to information that individuals do not have.  The divine right of institutions should be eliminated beginning with and perhaps dependent on the open exchange of information.

1. The U.S. Department of the Treasury poisoned alcohol during Prohibition — and people died.

The 18th Amendment, which took effect in January 1920, banned the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol — but not consumption. Despite the government’s efforts, alcoholism actually skyrocketed during the era.

To keep up with America’s thirst, bootleggers not only created their own alcohol but also stole industrial versions, rendered undrinkable by the inclusion of certain chemicals (namely methyl alcohol). Liquor syndicates then employed chemists to “re-nature” the alcohol once again, making it safe for consumption, according to Deborah Blum, author of “The Poisoner’s Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York.”

By mid-1927, however, the U.S. government added much deadlier chemicals — kerosene, chloroform, and acetone among those most well known — which made alcohol more difficult to render consumable again. Adding 10% more methyl alcohol caused the worst efforts.

Although New York City’s chief medical examiner, Charles Norris, tried to publicize the dangers, in 1926, poisonous alcohol killed 400 in the city. The next year, 700 died.

Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment

2. The U.S. Public Health Service lied about treating black men with syphilis for more than 40 years.

In 1932, the Public Health Service collaborated with the Tuskegee Institute to record the history of syphilis in the black male community, hoping to justify a treatment program. 

Called the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Malethe study initially included 600 black men — 399 with the disease and 201 without. While the men were told they would receive treatment, however, the researchers never provided adequate treatment for the disease. Even when penicillin became the preferred and available treatment for syphilis, researchers kept their subjects in the dark. 

Although originally planned to last only six months, the experiment continued for 40 years. Finally, in 1972, an Associated Press article prompted public outrage and a subsequent investigation. A government advisory panel deemed the study “ethically irresponsible” and research ended almost immediately.

As a result, the government settled a class-action lawsuit out of court in 1974 for $10 million and lifetime health benefits for all participants, the last of whom died in 2004.

3. More than 100 million Americans received a polio vaccine contaminated with a potentially cancer-causing virus.

From 1954 to 1961, simian virus 40 (SV40) somehow showed up  in polio vaccines, according to the American Journal of Cancer. Researchers estimate 98 million people in the U.S. and even more worldwide received contaminated inoculations.

Jonas Salk, known creator of the inactivated polio vaccine, used cells from rhesus monkeys infected with SV40, according to president of the National Vaccine Information Center Barbara Fisher, who testified before the Subcommittee on Human Rights and Wellness in the U.S. House of Representatives on this matter in 2003, after researching the situation for 10 years.

The federal government changed oral vaccine stipulations in 1961 — which didn’t include Salk’s inactivated polio vaccine — specifically citing SV40. But medical professionals continued to administer tainted vaccines until 1963, according to Michael E. Horwin writing for the Albany Law Journal of Science and Technology in 2003. And even after 1961, the American Journal of Cancer found contaminated oral vaccines.

Although researchers know SV40 causes cancer in animals, opinions vary on a direct link between the virus and cancer in humans. Independent studies, however, have identified SV40 in brain and lung tumors of children and adults.

The Centers for Disease Control did post a fact sheet acknowledging the presence of SV40 in polio vaccines but has since removed it, according to Medical Daily.

4. Parts of the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, which led to U.S. intervention in Vietnam, never happened.

After evading a torpedo attack, the USS Maddox reportedly engaged three North Vietnamese boats in the Gulf of Tonkin on both Aug. 2 and 4, 1964, according to the Pentagon Papers. Although without U.S. casualties, the events prompted Congress to pass a resolution allowing President Lyndon John to intervene in the Southeast. 

Talk of Tonkin’s status as a “false flag” for U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War has permeated public discourse almost since the time of the attacks, especially after the government admitted that the second incident may have involved false radar images.

But after resisting comment for decades, the National Security Agency finally declassified documents in 2005, admitting the incident on Aug. 4 never happened at all.

Those involved didn’t necessarily intend to cover-up the incident to propagate a war. But the evidence does suggest “an active effort to make SIGINT fit the claim of what happened during the evening of 4 August in the Gulf of Tonkin,”according to NSA historian Robert J. Hanyok.

5. Military leaders reportedly planned terrorist attacks in the U.S. to drum up support for a war against Cuba.

In 1962, the joint chiefs-of-staff approved Operation Northwoods, a covert plan to create support for a war in Cuba that would oust communist leader Fidel Castro.

Declassified government documents show considerations included: host funerals for “mock-victims,” “start rumors (many),” and “blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba.” They even suggested somehow pinning John Glenn’s potential death, should his rocket explode, on communists in Cuba.

The advisors presented the plan to President Kennedy’s Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, according to investigative journalist James Bamford’s book, “Body of Secrets.” We don’t know whether McNamara immediately refused, but a few days later, Kennedy told Army Gen. Lyman L. Lemnitzer, the plan’s poo-bah, that the U.S. would never use overt force to take Cuba.

A few months later, Lemnitzer lost his position.

“There really was a worry at the time about the military going off crazy and they did, but they never succeeded, but it wasn’t for lack of trying,” Bamford told ABC News.

6. The government tested the effects of LSD on unwitting U.S. and Canadian citizens.

Under the code name “MKUltra,” the U.S. government ran a human-research operation within the CIA’s Scientific Research Division. Researchers tested the effects of hypnosis, sensory deprivation, isolation, torture, and most memorably, LSD, on U.S. and Canadian citizens. Most had no idea.

To conduct these experiments, the CIA paid prisons, hospitals, and other institutions to keep quiet. The department even enticed heroin addicts to participate by offering them heroin, according to documents from a joint hearing to subcommittees of Congress, where President Kennedy spoke.

That day, he regaled Congress with “chilling testimony.” Over 30 universities became involved in various studies. Notably, many lacked oversight by medical or scientific professionals. At least one participant, Frank Olsen, died, reportedly from suicide after unknowingly ingesting LSD. 

In January 1973, then CIA Director Richard Helms ordered the destruction of all documents pertaining to MKUltra. When Congress looked into the matter, no one, not even Helms, could “remember” details. Through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, more documents were located, but the full timeline remains incomplete.

The events inspired investigative journalist Jon Ronson’s best-selling book, “The Men Who Stare At Goats,” now a movie of the same title starring George Clooney.

7. In 1974, the CIA secretly resurfaced a sunken Soviet submarine with three nuclear-armed ballistic missiles.

The CIA’s secret “Project Azorian” aimed to raise a sunken Soviet submarine from the floor of the Pacific Ocean to retrieve three nuclear-armed ballistic missiles, each carrying a one megaton nuclear warhead.

With President Nixon’s approval, CIA director Richard Helms placed all the plans in a secret file called “Jennifer,” thus keeping the information from everyone but a select number of government officials.

After a FOIA, the NSA finally published an article from the CIA’s in-house journal, Studies in Intelligence, revealing that the department succeeded in resurfacing portions of the sub, named K-129.

The CIA redacted text in these documents that prevent determining the operation’s exact level of success, but the crew of the Glomar Explorer, the recovery ship, did haul contents to Hawaii for unloading.

Reagan Iran Contra Scandal

8. The U.S. government sold weapons to Iran, violating an embargo, and used the money to support Nicaraguan militants.

In 1985, senior officials in the Reagan administration facilitated the sale of arms to Iran, then under embargo. The government, with the National Security Council’s Oliver North acting as a key player, later used the profits to fund the Contras, anti-communist rebels, in Nicaragua.

The whole situation began with seven American hostages taken by a hostile group in Lebanon with ties to Iran. Through an elaborate exchange involving Israel, the U.S. planned to sell weapons to Iran in exchange for the hostages’ freedom. The situation quickly derailed, although the Lebanese did release all but two hostages.

After a leak from an Iranian, the situation finally came to light in 1986. After repeatedly denying any involvement, the Reagan administration underwent 41 days of congressional hearings, according to Brown University’s research project on the scandal. They subpoenaed government documents as early as 1981 and forced declassification of others.

Reagan’s involvement in and even knowledge of the situation remains unclear. The hearings never labeled the sale of weapons to Iran a criminal offense, but some officials faced charges for supporting the Contras. The administration, however, refused to declassify certain documents, forcing Congress to drop them.

9. A public relations firm organized congressional testimony that propelled U.S. involvement in the Persian Gulf War.

In 1990, a 15-year-old Kuwaiti girl identified only as “Nayirah” testified before Congress that she witnessed Iraqi soldiers pulling infants from their incubators at a hospital and tossing them to the ground to die.

A later investigation revealed that PR giant Hill & Knowlton arranged her testimony for a client, Kuwaiti-sponsored Citizens for a Free Kuwait, and furthermore that Nayirah was the daughter of Kuwait’s Ambassador to the U.S., according to The New York Times.

Tom Lantos, a representative from California who co-founded the committee that heard Nayirah, coordinated the whole thing. Perhaps not coincidentally, his committee rented space in the PR firm’s headquarters at a reduced rate. Citizens for a Free Kuwait would go on to donate money to foundations with ties to said committee sometime after Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.

At first, Amnesty International affirmed the girl’s testimony. But after reinvestigation, the group and other human rights organizations switched positions. They didn’t necessarily question the accuracy, just her withheld bias.

Nayirah’s testimony helped build support for the Persian Gulf War, though Congress would have likely pursued involvement without her words.

Why I Think Jesus Didn’t Exist: A Historian Explains the Evidence That Changed His Mind

Dr. Richard Carrier flew in from California to lecture the UNCG Atheists, Agnostics, and Skeptics on the historicity of Christ. The historicity of Christ has appeared in the public consciousness over the last few years because of such individuals such as Robert Price and Dr. Carrier. This topic deals with the analysis of historical data to determine if Jesus existed as an actual person.

The fact the Jesus is a myth doesn’t mean the bible is lie. It’s a religious book, not an historical text book or science book. It’s a spiritual book and much of what was presented to the Nicene assembly were Gnostic texts that were pregnant with deeper meanings than a mere historical person could possibly contain. What ever Christianity looked like precisely before Rome’s involvement is impossible to know since all the books and records have been destroyed by Rome. That definitely makes a level headed person suspicious. The essence of the teaching can be found in the Zoroastrian books, the teachings of Krishna and Buddha, the teaching of Plato and more. They were all plagiarized and the evidence of this destroyed. It’s not rocket science, but it’s hard to tear down centuries of ignorant belief in the deceived masses. The bible is still sprinkled with Gnosis throughout, and only one’s spirit can reveal the hidden meanings to the Self. Operating from the lower animal ego left brain, one will remain blind to Truth and kept under the control of the ”system.”
